D. Discussing new concepts

and practicing new skills
no.1

Let’s move on to our next discussion,

The Simple Present Tense of Verb .

Simple Present Tense of Verb-is a verb

tense that states action in present
time.
 If the Subject is singular add-s
or es to the base form.

For example: “She loves to play

volleyball.”

 The subject is singular which is

she and the verb is love then
we add s to the base form
that’s why she become loves.

Another example: “Trisha walks to

school every day.”

 Trisha is singular so we need to

add s to the base form of verb.

My question is How will you know if

the subject is Singular or Plural?
(Euri)
Singular is only referring to one person
Yes Euri? or thing while plural is referring to
more than one person teacher.

Very well said Euri.

When we say Singular it is referring to

one person or things.

For example: My son lives in Malaysia.

I am only referring to one person
which is my son, Son is singular that’s
why we need to add s to the base form
of verb.

Do you understand class? Yes teacher!

Next if the subject is plural use the

base form of the verb.

Example: “We generally sing song all

together.”

The verb here is sing, you don’t need

to add s or es because it is referring to
more than one person you just only
use the base form of the verb.

Another example: Peter and Jeff carry

a heavy bag.
So the verb here is carry, you don’t
need to add s because it is referring to
more than one person.
 Remember class if the subject
is singular add s or es and if
the subject is plural you don’t
need to add s or es you should
only use the base form of the
verb.

Do you understand class? Yes teacher!

 If the verb ends in y change

the y to I and add es.

For example:
Fly- flies
Cry- cries
Dry- dries

Sample sentence:
He try very hard

Can someone go to the board and

circle the verb that was use in the
sentence.
(Janelle go to the board to Circle the
Yes Janelle. verb that was use in the sentence)

Very well Janelle.

What are you going to do if the verb All pupils: we need to change y to I and
ends in y? add es.

Next is “The baby cry loudly.”

The verb here is cry, we need to

change y to I and add es to become
cries.

Do you understand class? Yes teacher!

If the verb ends in ss, x, z, sh, ch add -

es

For example:

Fix- Fixes -you can add es at the of x to

become fixes.

Another example: catch-catches

Sample sentence

“Joy catches the ball.”

“ Pedro pushes the cart”
