Section B
(Questions in this section consists of 2 marks each.)

11. 5 pencils and 7 pens together cost Rs 50, whereas 7 pencils and 5 pens together cost Rs.46. Represent the
situation algebraically and then solve graphically (geometrically) to find the cost of one pencil and that of one pen.
Ans – 5x + 7y = 50 , 7x + 5y = 46 , One pencil = Rs. 3 and one pen = Rs. 5
12. Solve the following pair of linear equations: 21x + 47y = 110 , 47x + 21y = 162
Ans - x=3 and y=1
𝑦
13. If 2x + y = 23 and 4x – y = 19, find the values of 5y – 2x and 𝑥 – 2.
Ans – x=7 and y=9
5y – 2x = 31 and y/x – 2 = -5/7
14. The angles of a triangle are x, y and 40°. The difference between the two angles x and y is 30°. Find x and y.
Ans- x= 85 and y= 55
15. A fraction becomes 1/3 when 1 is subtracted from the numerator and it becomes 1/4 when 8 is added to its
denominator. Find the fraction.
Ans - the numerator is 5 and the denominator is 12
Hence, the fraction is 5/12
16. From Bangalore bus stand, if we buy 2 tickets to Malleshwaram and 3 tickets to Yeshwanthpur, the total cost is
Rs. 46; but if we buy 3 tickets to Malleshwaram and 5 tickets to Yeshwanthpur, then the total cost is Rs. 74. Find the
fares from Bangalore bus stand to Malleshwaram and Yeshwanthpur.
Ans – 2x + 3y = 46 ; 3x + 5y = 74 , x = 8 and y = 10
Section C
(Questions in this section consists of 3 marks each)
17. A part of monthly hostel charges is fixed and the remaining depends on the number of days one has taken food in
the mess. When a student A takes food for 20 days she has to pay ₹ 1000 as hostel charges whereas a student B, who
takes food for 26 days, pays ₹ 1180 as hostel charges. Find the fixed charges and the cost of food per day.
Ans – x + 20y = 1000 , x + 26y = 1180 , X= 400 AND y= 30
18. The sum of a two-digit number and the number obtained by reversing the digits is 66. If the digits of the number
differ by 2, find the number. How many such numbers are there?

Section D
(Questions in this section consists of 5 marks each)
21. Yash scored 40 marks in a test, getting 3 marks for each right answer and losing 1 mark for each wrong answer.
Had 4 marks been awarded for each correct answer and 2 marks been deducted for each incorrect answer, then Yash
would have scored 50 marks. How many questions were there in the test?
3x−y=40 ....(1) , 4x−2y=50 ....(2)
Correct answer =15, wrong answers =5
∴total question=x+y total question=15+5
⇒total question=20
22. The area of a rectangle gets reduced by 9 square units, if its length is reduced by 5 units and breadth is increased
