Reinforced Concrete 2 - Term Project

The document outlines the design criteria, materials specifications, and procedures for a reinforced concrete project involving a 3-storey house using the Strength Design Method (SDM). It includes detailed requirements for structural elements, design codes, and the compilation of a calculation report. Additionally, it specifies the use of AutoCAD for structural drawings and provides guidelines for project case dimensions.

Reinforced Concrete 2 – Term Project

The Design of 3-Storey House Using Strength Design Method (SDM)

1. Design Criteria:
▪ General interior floors that do not contact with water, pre-cast slab of
5 cm thickness is allowed but with maximum length of 4-meters and
cast with concrete topping of 5cm.
▪ For floors contact with water (ex. balcony, roof top, bathroom,
kitchen), cast in place slab of minimum 10 cm but not over 15 cm is a
must for design.
▪ For main beam must have the mean width (bw) less than or equals
column size. (Column, C1 0.25x0.25m -> Beam, B1 0.25x0.50m or B1
0.20x0.50m)
▪ Minimum cross section of main beam is 0.20x0.40 and for sub beam is
0.15x0.30m but the depth should not be deeper than 0.50.
▪ Minimum cross section of column is 0.20x0.20m but should not larger
than 0.30x0.30m.
▪ Use spread footing as the building resistance for foundation with the
bearing resistance of 10t/m2.
▪ Other elements design will be on the designers judgement and
experiences.
2. Design Materials Specification
▪ Concrete: f’c = 240 ksc
▪ Main steel: fy = 4000 ksc
o Min. diameter of deformed bar is 12mm and max. of 16mm.
▪ Rebar steel fy = 2400 ksc
o Min. diameter of rebar steel is 6mm and max. of 12mm.
3. Design code:
▪ Thai Ministerial Regulation B.E. 2566 (2023)
▪ Thai Building and Regulation B.E. 2522
▪ ACI318-14 (SDM)
▪ Institute of Engineering Thailand EIT-1008-38 (SDM)
4. Design Procedure:
▪ Students are allowed to analyze the structure by using hand calculation,
SUTStructor or other finite elements program with a proof of hand
calculation to verify the analysis result.
▪ Students are allowed to design structural elements by using Microsoft
Excel for fast and convenience design BUT must compare with one
hand calculation and each group must create your own Excel design
sheet. A copied file found with other groups will be punished by F.
▪ Structural loads and elements that will be calculated are:
o Slab (floor) design for first, second, and roof top.
o Load transfer from floor to beam
o Beam design (Grouping beam design by not allow to have more
than 12 beams number ex. B1 -->B12)
o Column design (Grouping column design with similar cross
section and steel reinforcement by not allow to have more than
10 columns number ex. C1 -->C10)
o Stair design
o Pier design (Short column connects with footing)
o Footing design
o Others
5. Compilation of Reinforced Concrete Structure Calculation Report:
a) Using Microsoft word for report (clean and clear)
b) Cover page
c) Preface
d) Table of contents
e) Design criteria (e.g., design code, material strength, live load, dead
load, ...)
f) Architectural plan (3D or 2D)
g) Structural analysis including load on structures (programs or hand
calculation)
h) Design of structure elements and drawing details
6. Structural Drawings Using AutoCAD:
a) Plot on A3 paper using a scale not smaller than specified below:
o Foundation and footing plan scale 1 : 75
o Ground beam plan scale 1 : 75
o Beam plan scale 1 : 75
o Roof beam plan (concrete beam) scale 1 : 75
o Detailed foundation plan scale 1 : 20
o Detailed column and footing plan scale 1 : 20 or 1 : 10
o Detailed concrete beam plan scale 1 : 20 or 1 : 10
o Detailed roof beam plan scale 1 : 20 or 1 : 10
o Detailed slab plan (short and long side) scale 1 : 20
o Detailed stair plan (if any) scale 1 : 20 or 1 : 10
o Other details, such as precast floor installation scale 1 : 20
b) Export as pdf for drawing.
7. Project case:
a) Height from first floor to second for is 3.20 meters.
b) Height from second floor to roof top floor is 3.20 meters.
c) Roof top floor to roof 2.50 meters
