Scope and Limitations

This study aims to identify the coping mechanisms of grade 10 students at Sandiat National High School in response to academic stress. It hypothesizes both the absence and presence of a relationship between coping strategies and stress reduction. The findings will benefit students and parents by providing insights into effective coping techniques and understanding academic challenges.

SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS

The aim of this study is to identify the coping mechanisms of students to academic stress. The

scope of this study encompasses different coping mechanisms that deal with academic stress.

Specifically, the researchers determine the different coping mechanisms of grade 10 students. By

focusing on this particular level, the researchers aim to gain insights into the specific coping

mechanisms to academic stress of students. This study is limited to the grade 12 students as

Sandiat National High School, School Year 2024-2025.

HYPOTHESIS

There is no relationship between the use of coping mechanisms and the reduction of

stress levels. In other words, individuals' coping strategies have no impact on their ability to

manage and alleviate stress in response to challenging situations.

There is a significant relationship between the use of coping mechanisms and the

reduction of stress levels. In other words, individuals’ coping strategies have impact on their

ability to manage and alleviate stress in response to challenging situations.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This study is conducted to benefit the following;

Students. This study would guide for them to get more ideas regarding the techniques or

strategies in coping with academic stress.

Parents. This researcher will benefit the parents by giving them an idea on what are the problem

that their children experiencing at school. This research will also help parents to give more

attention to their children to prevent academic stress.

is important for physical and mental health as it can lower stress and make sleep better.

The statement "My family gives a stable and supportive home environment" has a weighted

mean of 4.12 (Agree). The statement "I can easily get to quiet places where I can study well

without being bothered" has a weighted mean of 3.90 (Agree), suggesting respondents generally

feel they have good study spaces. The statement "My parents or guardians are really involved

and support my education" has a weighted mean of 3.90 (Agree), indicating respondents

generally feel their parents or guardians care about their education and help when needed.

In this table self-esteem, most statements show a significant relationship with the null

hypothesis rejected, and the r values vary in degree of correlation. Positive correlations like "I

have strong and supportive relationships with the important people in my life" (r = 0.18) and "I

feel secure in my financial situation" (r = 0.20) suggest good relationships and financial security

may be linked to higher self-esteem, while negative correlations such as "I am able to build

meaningful connections with new people" (r = -0.26) and "I felt some stress, but it was

manageable" (r = -0.34) might imply a potential negative impact on self-esteem. Regarding

financial aspects, the mostly negative r values indicate an inverse relationship between variables

and financial factors, "I have strong and supportive relationships with the important people in my

life" (r = -0.20) and "I find working collaboratively with new people to be a rewarding

experience" (r = -0.20) suggesting positive social experiences may be associated with lower
financial concerns. In terms of time management, most statements show a significant relationship

with the null hypothesis rejected, but "I find working collaboratively with new people to be a

rewarding experience" (r = 0.28) and "I felt some stress, but it was manageable" (r = 0.37) show

a non- significant relationship with the null hypothesis accepted, meaning these factors may not

directly impact time management, and the other statements have varying r values indicating

different degrees of correlation with time management.

Research Locale
This research will be conducted at Sandiat National High School, Sandiat East San

Manuel, Isabela, Philippines. The researcher chose this place since the study is all about the

coping mechanism in academic stress in Sandiat National High School.

Sample and Sampling Procedures

The researcher used simple random sampling in selecting respondents to have an equal

sample in grade 10 students. In total of 104 students, the researcher will only choose 60 students

as their respondents.

Research Instruments

In order to gather accurate data, the researchers looked for questionnaire that is related to

the study. This questionnaire is developed by Rajendran and Kaliappan (1991), 2022. The

questionnaire that the researchers looked were modified by the researchers.

The questionnaire was developed based on the study’s objectives. The questionnaire

consisted of five (5) items for academic stressors and twenty (20) items for coping mechanisms.

The first table of questionnaire for coping mechanism is consisted of five (5) questions about

relating to other people, the second table is consisted of five (5) questions about personal factors,

third table is consisted of five (5) questions about academic factors, and forth table is consisted

of five (5) questions about environmental factors. The respondents answered these questions

using the following;

Likert scale: 1- Strongly Disagree, 2- Disagree, 3- Neutral, 4- Agree, and 5- Strongly

Agree.
