• THE SUBJECT HAS 3 ASPECTS:
• CRIMINOLOGY – Which is the study of crime and its cure. It involves studying
the nature of crime, criminal behavior, how criminals think and how they are
taken care of by means of punishment (which is an aspect of Penology) thus
linking Criminology to Penology
• PENOLOGY – covers study on prevention of crime, how prisons are managed
and treatment of offenders.
• VICTIMOLOGY
• Victimology is the scientific study of victimization, including the relationships
between victims and offenders, victims and the criminal justice system, and
victims and other social groups and institutions, such as the media, businesses,
and social movements.
• The subjects of criminology, penology and victimology are growing fields of law
and are subjects of research.
