Meals in Viet Nam - lunch or dinner - must include rice. Traditionally, Vietnamese meals are
prepared by wives or mothers and the whole family is expected to eat. However, families now may have
only one meal a day at home, and it may not include all the family members.

Tastes, cooking methods and dishes are different between the three regions: the North, the
Central, and the South. Nowadays, these differences have become small. When families do not have
