2nd Phase of PM Internship Scheme

March 15, 2025
Recently, Finance Minister Nirmala
Sitharaman announced the launch of a
dedicated app for the Prime Minister’s
Internship Scheme (PMIS). This initiative
aims to boost participation by simplifying
the registration process for the second
round of the scheme. The app addresses the
challenge of limited computer access,
leveraging mobile technology to provide a
more user-friendly experience for
applicants.
About PM Internship Scheme
The PMIS was introduced to enhance
employment opportunities for young
individuals.
It aims to provide professional
experiences and training across various
sectors.
The scheme’s goal is to offer internships
to 10 million people over five years.
Interns can expect a monthly stipend of
₹5,000 and a one-time grant of ₹6,000 for
incidental expenses.
Facilitation Centre in Kolkata
A facilitation centre has been established in
Kolkata through a partnership between the
Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) and the
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). This
centre will mobilise candidates and provide
guidance. CII operates 47 model career
centres, which will integrate PMIS cells to
enhance outreach and support for
applicants.
Information, Education, and Communication
Events
To improve social outreach, the MCA plans
to conduct over 70 Information, Education,
and Communication (IEC) events
nationwide. These events aim to raise
awareness about the PMIS and ensure that
potential interns are well-informed about
the opportunities available.
Targets
The first round of PMIS saw 28,141 candidates
accepting internship offers. The second
round aims to provide over 100,000
internships across more than 300
companies. The ambitious target for the
financial year 2025 is to reach 1.25 lakh
internships.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates aged between 21 and 24 years
are eligible to apply. Applicants must have
completed their 10th and 12th grades or hold
a UG degree, ITI, or other technical
qualifications. This criterion ensures that a
diverse range of young individuals can
participate in the scheme.

Thematic Hubs
March 15, 2025
Recently, the Government of India
announced the establishment of four
thematic hubs to advance quantum
computing technology. This initiative is part
of the National Quantum Mission (NQM). The
hubs will facilitate research and
development in quantum computing,
communication, and sensing.
National Quantum Mission Overview
The National Quantum Mission was
approved in April 2023 with a budget of
₹6,003.65 crore over eight years. Its goal is to
promote quantum technologies across
India. The mission focuses on developing
quantum computers, secure
communication systems, and advanced
sensing technologies.
Quantum Computers
Quantum computers operate on principles
of quantum mechanics. They use ‘qubits’
instead of traditional bits to process
information. This allows them to perform
calculations at speeds unattainable by
classical computers. The mission aims to
develop intermediate-scale quantum
computers with increasing qubit capacities
over the next eight years.
Applications of Quantum Technology
Quantum technology has vast potential
applications. It promises secure
communication networks and advanced
computing capabilities. The mission
includes plans for satellite-based secure
communications and inter-city quantum
key distribution. Additionally, it aims to
create high-sensitivity magnetometers and
atomic clocks for precise measurements.
Thematic Hubs and Their Functions
Four thematic hubs have been established
at leading institutions
Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru
Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai

Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi

Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai

These hubs will focus on technology
development, human resources,
entrepreneurship, and collaboration with
industries and international partners.
Funding Distribution
The funding is distributed among various
states, with Uttar Pradesh receiving the
highest allocation of ₹28.7 crore.
Maharashtra and Karnataka follow, with
lesser amounts for Delhi and Tamil Nadu.
