Firmware upgradation procedure in Sun 3510 storedge

Three types of firmware available in sun 3510 storedge


1. Firmware for the Array RAID controllers
2. Firmware for the SES Processors
3. Firmware for the Programmable logic devices (PLD)

Controller Firmware upgradation:


1) Check the Current Firmware version for the controller.
sccli> show inquiry

Here the Controller Firmware version is 413C.

2) Verify dual or single controller upgrade by typing the following command


Sccli> show redundancy
Primary controller serial number: 6107845
Primary controller location: Upper
Redundancy mode: Active-Active
Redundancy status: enable
Secondary controller serial number: 0

If the Array redundancy mode is Active-Active and the redundancy status is


enabled then we have to go for dual controller up gradation

3) Download the latest Firmware patch file and save it in the tmp directory and
extract them.

4) For single controller up gradation


sccli> download controller-firmware -r SUN421F-3510.bin

4) For dual controller up gradation

5) Verify the controller firmware

SES Firmware Upgradation

1) For the SES firmware upgrade, first verify the SES firmware version
sccli> show ses-devices

2) Since the SSCS agent may interfere with the download of SES code, its necessary
to stop any SSCS agent:
# /etc/init.d/ssagent stop
3) Upgrade the SES firmware
sccli> download ses-firmware sesfw_3510_1103.s3r

Where sesfw_3510_1102.s3r is present in the directory where the patch has been
unpacked and its name may vary with the version.
4) Verify that all the SES devices have been upgraded:

PLD Firmware Upgradation


1) To upgrade the PLD firmware first verify the firmware version
Sccli> show ses-devices
sccli> show ses-devices

2) Stop the I/O activities and proceed the PLD upgrade:


Sccli>download pld-firmware pld1r10.s3r
WARNING: The array will have to be power-cycled at the end of this procedure.
Power-cycling the array at the wrong time will cause permanent failure.
You will be prompted to power cycle the array at the appropriate time.
WARNING: The array will be offline for up to several minutes.
Are you sure? y

PLD will be downloaded through following SES targets


SES # 1: CH 2 ID 12, INQ STR: SUN StorEdge 3510F A1103
sccli: start to shutdown the raid controller...done
sccli: controller is shut down and ready for PLD download

3) Verify the PLD Firmware had been upgraded

4) Start the SSCS agent:
