Technology, adopt sound Manufacturing Processes, Systems & Compliances,
R&D, Customer Service and above all, to manage & administer all these
resources by highly capable and competent Human Resources. In that sense,
the differentiating factor between two comparable industries would turn out to
be the Performance of Human Resources and their Capability, rest all being
more or less common.
Consistent High performing organizations are equipped with good competent
human resources by establishing and practicing focused Human Resource
Development initiatives in place.

Whether driven by the need to improve efficiency, productivity or profitability or

to provide world class customer service, the combination of two components
are critical: a) Exactly identifying the competencies required for the Role, b)
Selecting talented and high potential Human resource to meet the standards in
support of carrying out the organization’s mission, vision & values to bring out
the desired results. Therefore, it has become inevitable to carefully address the
Competency requirement of the Organization on Role based or Job based
needs.

Objective:

Definition of Competency

Leading Organizations might describe a job competency as “a series of

behaviors or actions that make up a portion of a job:

Jacobs (1989) defined competency as an observable skill or ability to complete

a managerial task successfully.

According to Evarts (1987) it is an underlying characteristic of a manager

which casually relates to his/her superior performance on the job.

Hornby and Thomas (1989) defined it as the ability to perform effectively the
functions associated with management in a work situation.

What is a Competency?

A Competency is an underlying characteristic of a person, which enables him

to deliver superior performance in a given job, role or a situation.
Why Competency Mapping?

Identifying competencies on an organizational basis provides a means for

pinpointing the most critical competencies for organizational success. If the
individual competencies of the workforce are not in accord with those needed
by the organization, competency mapping will point out these gaps.
