CAED_UNIT 3 & 4 Notes

The document outlines various geometric solid projections and developments, including cones, prisms, pyramids, and cylinders, with specific dimensions and orientations. Each section describes the required drawings for sectional views and true shapes based on given cutting planes and angles. The tasks involve creating projections and developments for solids resting on horizontal planes with specific inclinations to vertical planes.

 A cone of base dia.

40mm and axis length 50mm is resting on HP on a

point on the circumference of its base such that axis is inclined to HP at
260 and its top view of the axis is inclined at 60 0 to VP. Draw its
projections of the cone.

Section of Solids
1) A hexagonal prism of 25mm sides and 65mm height rests on its base on HP with one of its edges parallel to
VP. It is cut by a section plane inclined at an angle of 60 0 to HP, which intersects the axis of the prism at a height
of 35mm above the base. Draw the sectional top view and the true shape of section.

2) A pentagonal pyramid, base side of 40mm, axis 70mm long, rests vertically on HP, with one of its inclined
edges parallel to VP. It is cut by a section plane perpendicular to VP, inclined at 45 0 to HP bisects the axis. Draw
the front view, sectional top view and true shape of section.
3) A cube of 30mm edges rests with a square face on HP such that one of its vertical square face is inclined at 30 0
to VP. A section plane perpendicular to VP and inclined at 60 0 to HP and passes through a point on the axis 5mm
below its top end. Draw its sectional top view, front view and true shape of section.
4) A square pyramid of base side 30mm and axis length of 65mm is resting on HP on one of its corners of the
base such that the two base edges containing the corner on which it rests make equal inclinations with HP. A
section plane, inclined at 350 to the HP, cuts the pyramid at 30mm from the apex. Draw its sectional top view
and true shape of the section.
5) A hexagonal pyramid base 30mm side and axis 65mm long, rests on HP on one of its edges on the base. A
section plane, inclined at 30 0 to the HP, cuts the pyramid at mid point. Draw the front view, sectional top view
and true shape of section.
6) A cylinder 60mm dia and 80mm long stands with its circular base on HP. A section plane perpendicular to VP
and inclined at 600 to HP cuts the axis at a point 28mm from its top end. Draw the sectional top and true shape
of section.
7) A cone dia of base 60mm and axis 70mm long is resting on its base on HP. It is cut by a section plane
perpendicular to VP and inclined at 45 0 to HP, which passes through the axis at a point 40mm above HP. Draw
sectional top view, front view and true shape of section.
DEVELOPMENTS
4) A square prism of base side 30mm and axis length 60mm is resting on H.P on its base with a side of base
inclined at 300 to V.P. It is cut by a plane inclined at 40 0 to H.P and perpendicular to V.P and is cut at a distance of
41.03mm from the base of the axis. Draw the development of the lateral surface of the remaining portion of the
prism.
5) A pentagonal prism of base side 30mm and axis length 60mm is resting on H.P on its base with a side of base
parallel to V.P. It is cut by a plane inclined at 350 to H.P and perpendicular to V.P and meets the axis at a distance
35mm from the base. Draw the development of the lower portion of the prism.
6) A hexagonal prism of base side 25mm and height 60mm when it is kept vertically on the ground with the face
parallel to V.P. It is cut by a cutting plane which is perpendicular to V.P and inclined to H.P at 65 0 and bisecting
the axis. Draw the development of lateral surfaces of retained portion of the prism.

7) A pentagonal pyramid of base side 30mm and axis length 60mm is resting on H.P on its base with a side of
base is perpendicular to V.P. It is cut by a plane perpendicular to V.P and 45 0 to H.P which meets an axis at a
distance 25mm from the vertex. Draw the development of frustum of the pyramid.

8) A square pyramid of base side 30mm and altitude 60mm is resting on H.P on its base with a side of base
inclined at 250 to V.P. It is cut by a plane inclined at 350 to H.P and perpendicular to V.P and bisects the axis.
Draw development of the remaining lower portion of the pyramid.
9) Draw the development of the lateral surface of a funnel consisting of a cylinder and a frustum of a cone. The
diameter of the cylinder is 20mm and top face diameter of the funnel is 80mm. The height of frustum and
cylinder are equal to 60mm and 40mm respectively.
