Section B : Answer the following questions. 3× 𝟐 = 𝟔
11. Factorise (𝟒𝟗𝒚𝟐 + 𝟖𝟒𝒚𝒛 + 𝟑𝟔𝒛𝟐 ) using suitable identity.
Sol. 𝑎 + 2𝑎𝑏 + 𝑏 = (𝑎 + 𝑏)
49𝑦 + 84𝑦𝑧 + 36𝑧 = (7𝑦) + 2 × 7𝑦 × 6𝑧 + (6𝑧)
=(7𝑦 + 6𝑥)
12. Following are the car parking charges near a railway station up to
Parking Time 4 hours 8 hours 12 hours 24 hours
Parking charges Rs. 60 Rs. 100 Rs. 140 Rs. 180

Check if the parking charges are in direct proportion to the parking time.
Sol. = = = =
= = = =
≠ ≠ ≠
𝑖𝑠 𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑡 ⇒ 𝑥 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑦 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑖𝑛 𝑑𝑖𝑟𝑒𝑐𝑡 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑝𝑜𝑟𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛
∴ The parking charges are not in direct proportion to the parking time.
13. Factorise : (𝒙𝟐 + 𝒙𝒚 + 𝟖𝒙 + 𝟖𝒚)
Sol. 𝑥 + 𝑥𝑦 + 8𝑥 + 8𝑦 = (𝑥 × 𝑥 + 𝑥 × 𝑦) + (8 × 𝑥 + 8 × 𝑦)
= 𝑥(𝑥 + 𝑦) + 8(𝑥 + 𝑦)
=(𝑥 + 𝑦)(𝑥 + 8)
Section C :Answer the following questions in your answer sheet. 𝟏×𝟒=𝟒
14. A school has 8 periods a day of 45 minutes duration. How long would each period
be, if the school has 9 periods a day, assuming the number of school hours to be
the same? Show your steps.
Sol.
Number of periods 8 9
Duration for each
45 𝑦
period ( Minutes)

If number of periods increase then the time allotted for each period will decrease.
So number of periods is inversely proportional to duration for each period.
𝑥 𝑦 =𝑥 𝑦
⇒ 8 × 45 = 9 × 𝑦
×
⇒𝑦 = = 40
∴ Each period will be 40 minutes.
Section D :Answer the following questions in your answer sheet. 𝟏×𝟓=𝟓
15. Factorise the expression and divide them as directed
𝟏𝟐𝒙𝒚(𝟗𝒙𝟐 − 𝟏𝟔𝒚𝟐 ) ÷ 𝟒𝒙𝒚(𝟑𝒙 + 𝟒𝒚)
× × × ×[( ) ( ) ]
Sol. 12𝑥𝑦(9𝑥 − 16𝑦 ) ÷ 4𝑥𝑦(3𝑥 + 4𝑦) =
× × ( )
[( )( )]
= ( )
= 3(3𝑥 − 4𝑦)
