Say NO on Legalizing Abortion
The deliberate termination of a pregnancy before the fetus is capable of survival
outside the womb is known as an abortion. Global discussions about this issue's morality,
ethics, religious beliefs, and legal standing have been triggered. Abortion laws vary by
nation; some only permit it in cases where the woman's health is in danger or there are fetal
abnormalities, while others strictly forbid it in certain situations. Numerous issues, including
as financial status, gender rights, cultural norms, and access to healthcare, influence the
abortion debate.
In fact, abortion becomes an issue of controversy across many countries with some
people being categorized under the pro-choice group and the other under the pro-life
advocates, arguing that their opposition is based on the believe in the sanctity of life.
Based on the grounds of personal freedom and bodily autonomy, free from
interference by the government, pro-choice advocates advance the right of individuals to
make decisions regarding their own bodies, including the ability to end a pregnancy.
Safeguarding access to safe, legal abortion is fundamental for gender equality, public health,
and personal freedom. On the other hand, activists support the sanctity of life-consideration
where a fetus has a right to life since conception. They thus grieve abortion, as they believe it
is equivalent to taking a life. Pro-life supporters fight for legal restrictions or complete
banning of abortion, promoting adoption of unwanted children and policies protecting the
unborn and value for life.
Personally, as a student, I think abortion goes against my belief. I believe life begins
at conception. Thus, abortion represents murder, in a sense, since it represents the elimination
of a human life. In the Bible, Psalm 139:13-16 says, “For you created my inmost being; you
knit me together in my mother's womb.” It highlights God's intimate involvement in the
formation of life, suggesting that life is sacred from the very beginning of gestation.
Abortion is just like murder since it entails the killing of human life, which starts at
conception. Additionally, it is an indirect negation of the widely held principle of sanctity of
human life. In the Bible, Job 12:10 says, “In his hand is the life of every living thing.” This
verse underscores God’s sovereignty over life and death, suggesting that only God has the
authority to determine when life begins and ends.
Health issues later in life from an abortion include double risk of ectopic pregnancies,
higher risk of miscarriage and pelvic inflammatory disease. The estimated complication rate
is about 2% for women, an instance that varies from basic problems such as pain and
bleeding to serious ones such as uterine perforation or hemorrhage (National Library of
Medicine, 2023).
A better alternative to abortion is adoption, whereby one handles the problem in a
different way but allows the kid to survive. Since most people are willing to adopt and take
care of a child even if they are not biologically related, then there never comes a time that a
child is unwanted. It would be better to take the process and let others care for the unborn kid
so that they may survive instead of their demise.
In the case of abortion, there are many alternatives that honor a child's right to live.
Women should never feel that abortion is the only or first option during pregnancy.
