SEMI DETAILED LESSON PLAN

Demo Teacher: Marlian G. Mendros

Lesson: Lesson 3. Conduct Test on the Stalled Computer System
Grade Level: Grade 9
Teaching Date and Time: March 11, 2025 / 10:30-11:15
Learning Area: TLE (ICT)
I. CONTENT
STANDARD AND
LEARNING
A. Content Standards 1.Use of Diagnostic Tools in testing installed hardware components and other
peripherals.
2.Software Tools/ Disk Management Tools.
B. Performance Standards Identify Hardware and software diagnostic tools
C. Lesson Competencies / Define and differentiate hardware and software diagnostic tools.
Objectives  Identify the functions and uses of different diagnostic tools.
Recognize the importance of using diagnostic tools.

TOPICS
III. LEARNING White Board
RESOURCES Projector
Marker
IV. Teaching and
Learning
Procedure
A. Preliminary Activities 1. Opening Prayer
2. Checking of Attendance
Conduct review from the previous lesson

Answer the following:

1. It is the way a system is set up, or the assortment of components that make up the
system. Ans: Configuration
2. Small software programs that help the operating system. Ans: Drivers
3. It is a software stored on a small memory chip on the motherboard that instructs the
computer on how to perform a number of basic functions such as booting and keyboard
B. Review control. Ans: BIOS
4. Write down the 3 steps on how to obtain and install drivers for hardware devices on a
Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer.
Ans:
Step 1: Determine the Hardware Manufacturer
Step 2: Obtain the Driver
Step 3: Install the Driver

C. Analysis Motivation

Start the Lesson by Asking the students:

 “Have you ever encountered computer problems?
 How would you be able to know the cause of the problem?
 Show the list of different computer diagnostic tools.
Group Activity
 Divide students into two groups.
 Let the students identify hardware and software tools.

D. Activity 1. Discuss what diagnostic tools are and different commonly used hardware diagnostic
tools and its uses:
 Digital Multimeter - Measures circuit integrity and electricity flow.
 Loopback Adapter - Tests computer ports.
 Toner Probe - Traces cables and detects signals.

2. Discuss what software tools are and the different Disk Management tools and their
uses:
 FDISK - Creates and deletes partitions.
 Disk Management Tool - Initializes and formats disks.
 ScanDisk/CHKDSK - Checks file system errors.
 Defrag - Optimizes hard drive space.
 Disk Cleanup - Removes unnecessary files.
 System File Checker (SFC) - Scans and repairs system files.

3. Ask students: “Why is it important to use the right tool for diagnosing hardware and
software issues?”

4. Discuss the importance of Diagnostic Tools

E. Abstraction 1. Key points:

 Hardware tools are used for diagnosing physical components.

 Software tools help detect and fix internal system issues.
 Proper use of tools ensures safe and efficient troubleshooting.
 Observing safety precautions prevents damage to components and injury.

F. Application
