Practice Set On Probability
This practice set will help you to improve your skill of solving questions in exam

Objective type:
1. For two events A and B, P(A)=0.5 and P(A∩B)=0.2, find P(A’UB).
2. Show that, P(A∩B’|C)+P(A∩B|C)=P(A|C)
3. Show that for any 2 events A and B, P(A∩B)≥P(A)+P(B)-1
4. Show that, P(A∩B’)=P(A)/[1-P(B)]
5. A box contains 9 balls, 2 of which are red, 3 blue and 4 black. Three balls are drawn at random.
Find the probability that all are of same colour.
6. Let P(A-B)=1/3, P(A)=1/2 and P(B)=1/3. Find the probability that out of the two events A and B,,
only B will occur.
7. Write down the limitations of classical definition of probability.
8. If A and B are mutually exclusive, find P(A|A∪B)
9. A number is selected from 2 sets 1,2,3,…,8 and 2,3,…,9. Find the probability that the sum of the
numbers is 9.
10. For two disjoint events A and B with positive probabilities, check whether they are independent.
11. If A and B are independent events such that P(A’)=0.7, P(B’)=K and P(A∪B)=0.8, find K.
12. If P(A∩B)=0.2, P(A∩B’)=0.4, find P(B’|A)
13. Let 2 unbiased die are thrown. If A be the event that the sum of the upper faces is 8 and B be
the event that the first die shown even number, find P(A|B).
14. If two dies thrown simultaneously, what is the probability of getting a total number of 7 points
or 9 points?
15. If P(A)=1/3, P(B)=3/4 and P(AUB)=11/12, find P(A|B).
16. Show that for any 2 events A and B, P(A|B)≥ [P(A)+P(B)-1]/P(B)
17. If P(A)=p and P(B|A)=P(B’|A’)=1-p, find P(A|B) and P(A’|B’).
18. A single letter is selected from the word PROBABILITY, find the probability that it is a vowel.
19. Write down the sample space when a coin is tossed till two consecutive heads appear.
20. A box contains 4 white and 5 black balls. A person draws 3 balls from the box at random and
without replacement. Find the probability that among the balls drawn there is at least one ball
of each colour.
