6. In a rectangular coordinate plane, with origin O, the coordinates of A and B are (7 , 4)
and (3, 1) respectively. C is the reflection image of A about the x-axis. B is rotated
anti-clockwise about O through 270 to D.
(a) Write down the coordinates of C and D.
(b) D is translated vertically by k units to become E such that AB is perpendicular to
CE. Find the value of k. (5 marks)

7. The volume of a solid right pyramid with square base is 3072 cm3. The ratio of the
height of the pyramid to the side of the square base is 2 : 3.

10. Solve 4 cos2 x – sin x – 2 sin2 x = 2 for 0° ≤ 𝑥 ≤ 360°. Give your answer correct to the

original along the y-axis and then translated to right by 8 units to become the graph of
𝑦 = 𝑔(𝑥). Let A be the vertex of the graph of 𝑦 = 𝑔(𝑥).
(a) Write down the coordinates of A and express 𝑦 = 𝑔(𝑥) in form of 𝑦 =
𝑎(𝑥 − 𝑏)2 + 𝑐, where a, b and c are constants. (3 marks)
(b) The graph of 𝑦 = ℎ(𝑥) also has vertex at A. It can be obtained by first translating
the graph of 𝑦 = 𝑓(𝑥) upward by d units and then reflecting with respect to the
y-axis. Find 𝑑. (2 marks)
(c) 𝑦 = 𝑠(𝑥) is a quadratic function with vertex at A. Mary claims that if the graph
𝑦 = 𝑓(𝑥) is first enlarged to p times its original along the x-axis and then enlarged
to q times its original along the y-axis, where p and q are positive, then the graph
𝑦 = 𝑠(𝑥) is obtained.
Do you agree? Explain your answer. (2 marks)

16. If the parabola 𝑦 = (𝑘 − 3)𝑥 2 + (𝑘 + 2)𝑥 + 𝑘 opens downward and does not meet the
straight line 𝑦 = 6, find the range of values of 𝑘. (5 marks)

17. P(1,  9) and Q(9,  7) are points on a circle C. The centre G of the circle lies on the
line L1 : 5x  3 y  6  0 .
(a) Find the equation of the perpendicular bisector of PQ. (4 marks)
(b) Find the equation of the circle C in general form. (3 marks)
(c) If the straight line L2 is a tangent to the circle C and is parallel to L1, find the
possible equations of L2. (4 marks)

18. When the temperature is between –25°C and 40°C, the number of tourists per month
(N) at a ski-resort partly varies directly as the temperature T °C and partly varies
directly as the square root of (T + 25) °C. When the temperature are −16°C and 24°C,
the number of tourists per month are 45 600 and 32 800 respectively.
(a) Find the number of tourists per month when the temperature is 11°C. (4 marks)
(b) Find the temperature when the number of tourists per month is 46 000. (2 marks)
(c) Let 𝑢 = √𝑇 + 25.
(i) Show that N = –1200u2 + 8800u + 30000 .
(ii) If the number of tourists per month is less than 28 500, find the possible range
of the temperature.
(iii) Mary claims that the number of tourists per month can be higher than 48 000.
Do you agree? Explain your answer. (7 marks)
