SELF-INTRODUCTION

PRACTICLE FIRST

OBJECTIVES:
1. Help students build connections: Equip students with the skills to confidently introduce themselves
and make meaningful connections at meetings, college events, or social activities.
2. Prepare students for professional introductions: Guide students on how to introduce themselves
effectively to potential employers, highlighting their strengths and aspirations.
3. Empower students to talk about their goals: Enable students to express their future aims and ambitions
clearly, helping them share their career vision and plans with others.
THEORY: In various settings like meetings, training, workshops, and conferences, introducing
yourself and discussing your role can be challenging, especially in a second language. Preparing a
professional introduction in advance boosts confidence and enhances networking success. Your
introduction should clearly state your job or internship goals, highlight your skills and relevant
experience, and communicate your key points concisely. Avoid assuming that others will understand
your intentions from just your job title or company name. Having a prepared introduction allows you
to adapt it to different contexts effectively.

GUIDELINES:

❖ Be specific--- communicate your focus or your goals

❖ Make your commercial conversational and not too heavy on the content

❖ Single yourself out from the crowd--- let your unique skills and personality shine

❖ Communicate enthusiasm and motivation

❖ What to include in your professional introduction:

1. What are you looking for? (Describe a dream job, professional career field, fulfilling position)
2. Recent education and relevant experience
3. Areas of expertise/skills/accomplishments
4. Include words that emphasize your enthusiasm.
PROCESS OF SELF-INTRODUCTION
5. Preparation
6. Understand the Structure: Ensure students grasp the key points of self-introduction (personal details,
education, skills, hobbies, career goals).
7. Create a Template: Provide a basic template outlining what to include (e.g., name, education, skills).

2. Warm-Up Exercise

1. Language Practice: Have students practice in pairs or small groups to reduce nervousness and
gain comfort speaking in English.
2. Vocabulary Review: Review key vocabulary and phrases for introductions (e.g., "I am passionate
about," "I have developed skills in").
3. Self-Introduction
1. Performance: Each student performs their self-introduction in front of the class or in small groups,
following the provided template.
2. Evaluation and Feedback
3. Listening Skills: Encourage active listening by having peers take notes on key points.
4. Constructive Feedback: Provide feedback on clarity, pronunciation, fluency, and vocabulary use.
Encourage peer feedback.
5. Language Focus
6. Pronunciation: Focus on correct pronunciation, particularly for challenging words.
7. Sentence Structure: Encourage complete sentences and smooth speech.
8. Body Language: Emphasize maintaining good posture and eye contact.
9. Reflection
10. Self-Assessment: Have students reflect on their performance and areas for improvement.
11. Peer Review: Allow peers to give constructive feedback.
12. Final Practice and Improvement
1. Rehearsal: Students practice their improved introduction based on feedback.
2. Final Performance: Conduct a second round of introductions to showcase progress.
