II. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, 100% of the students should be able to
achieve at least 85% proficiency on the following:
1. Explain the qualities of a good and not-good solder and the
step-by-step process of the soldering procedure;
2. Apply the soldering procedure to achieve a good result in
soldering the terminals of components and the copper clad;
3. Assess themselves if they are following the safety precaution
and the step by step process of the soldering procedure.
III. STRATEGIES:
A. PREPARATION
1. Routine Activities:
1.1 Prayer/Greetings
1.2 Checking of Attendance
1.3 Checking of Assignments
2. Review of the past lesson:
Answering the following questions:
1. What is printed circuit board??
2. What are the different types of etch resist materials?
3. What is PCB Etching?
3. Motivation
Identifying the pictures
4. Safety Precaution
1. Use gloves, and do not hold the soldering lead bare-
handed.
2. Use a face mask and avoid inhaling the lead oxide fumes.
3. Do not eat while doing the soldering procedure.
4. Do not touch the tip or even the metal part of the soldering
iron.
5. Put the soldering iron on the soldering stand when not in
use.
6. No horseplaying; do not joke around using a soldering iron.
7. Check for the exposed conductor in the power cord of the
soldering iron, if the exposed conductor is visible, do not
touch it and immediately remove the cord from the outlet.
5. Definition of Technical Terms:
1. Fumes - gas, smoke, or vapor those smells strongly or is
dangerous to inhale.
2. Flux – (derived from Latin fluxus meaning “flow”) is a
chemical cleaning agent, flowing agent, or purifying agent.
3. Solder - metallic alloy used to join two metal surfaces
B. PRESENTATION
Lesson Proper
What is Soldering?
SOLDERING is a process in which two or more metals are joined
together by melting and flowing a filler metal into the joint. The
filler metal typically has a relatively low melting point.
Soldering Equipment
Tools and Materials
A SOLDERING IRON is a tool normally used for applying heat to
two or more adjoining metal parts so that soldering lead may
melt and flow between those parts, binding them securely and
conductively.
A SOLDERING STAND is a safe place to rest the hot soldering
iron when not in use, preventing accidents and damage to the
work surface.
A DESOLDERING PUMP is a manually operated device that is
used to remove solder from a printed circuit board.
SOLDERING LEAD is a fusible metal alloy with a melting point
or melting range of 90 to 450 degrees Celsius. It is used in a
process called soldering, where it is melted to join metallic
surfaces.
Soldering Procedure
Step 1. Prepare the following tools and materials
Soldering Iron
Soldering Lead
Soldering Stand
Desoldering Pump
Printed Circuit Board
Long Nose Pliers
Step 2. Plug and Pre-heat the soldering iron.
Step 3. Take an electronic component and bend its legs using
long nose pliers, for nice fitting position on the holes of the PCB.
Step 4. Insert the legs of the component to the holes of the
non-copper side of the PCB and position it neatly. The copper
side is where the soldering will happen.
Step 5. Take the pre-heated soldering iron and solder. Position
the PCB wherein you would face its copper side and the legs of
the component. Heat up the area to be soldered by gently
touching the tip of the iron to the copper surface.

C. APPLICATION
1. Return demonstration of the students.
2. The teacher will group the class into 2 groups. Each group will
perform the soldering procedure in PCB and Copper Wires.
3. Values Integration: Sharing the importance of following safety
precaution and step-by-step process of soldering.
D. GENERALIZATION
Selected/Call a student to sum up the lesson and give the
importance of the lesson.
