ABSTRACT

The advent of technological advancements has revolutionized various aspects of

our lives, and the concept of a "smart home" has emerged as a prominent trend. A
smart home is a residence equipped with interconnected devices that can be
controlled and monitored remotely through a centralized system. This integration
of technology aims to enhance convenience, efficiency, and security within
domestic environments.

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

1.1 PROBLEM STATEMENT:

Frequent issues with smart home systems include compatibility challenges,

Internet connectivity problems, power source drain Issues, automation and routine
failures, difficulty setting up and controlling, voice assistant problems, and
security and privacy concerns.

smart home problems can be solved by Basic troubleshooting steps, such as device
rebooting, software updates, and network connectivity configuration, can often
resolve common issues.

1.2 SCOPE OF PURPOSED SYSTEM:

The primary purpose of a smart home project is to enhance convenience,

efficiency, and security within domestic environments. By automating tasks,
optimizing energy usage, and improving overall control, smart homes can improve
the quality of life for residents.

A smart home project aims to design, develop, and implement a that connects
various household devices and appliances to a centralized network, enabling
remote control and automation. The scope of such a project typically includes:
Device integration, Centralized control, Automation, Energy efficiency, Security.

CHAPTER 2: OBSERVATION THROUGH AEIOU

2.1 AEIOU OBSERVATION SHEET:

FIG 2.1 AEIOU CANVAS

 AEIOU is an observation tool. AEIOU framework is an examination tool to

help interpret observation by practices in field.

 Its primary functions are to code data and to develop building blocks of
models that will ultimately indicates the objectives and need of users.

8
2.1.1 ACTIVITIES:
A set of action of path which people want to fulfil is known as activities.
 Daily routines
 Guest hospitality
 Door opening automatic
 Automated light, ac
 Voice assistants
 User engagement with devices
 Automatic curtain opening
 Security

2.1.2 ENVIRONMENT:
It includes all the surrounding of the place of work where all the activities take
place.
 Friendly
 User
 Quick-speedy
 Automatic

2.1.3 INTERACTIONS:
These are the building blocks of activities here the people interacts with each
other and do work according to it.
 Human to app
 Application to device
 Mobile to human

9
2.1.4 OBJECTS:
It is the things which are present at the place of project and it is used by the
people in different activities and interactions.
 Sensors
 Controllers
 Remote controls
 Walls
 Floors
 Furniture
 Lights
 Security system
 Motors
 Electronic equipment

2.1.5 USERS:
Here the peoples who are present at the place of our observation and are involve
in some activities, interactions or using objects at the place is known as users. All
the type of users in over area of observation regarding our project is mentioned.
 Family oriented
 Security Guard
 Disabled individuals
 Renter
 Tech enthusiast

10
CHAPTER 3 : MIND MAPPING

FIG 3.1 MIND MAPPING

 Mind mapping refers to a technique that designers and engineers use to

express and generate ideas.
 All that mind mapping is a way to get all of ideas in your head down to paper.
 A mind map is a diagram used to visually organized information. A mind map
is hierarchical and shows relationships among pieces of the whole itis often
created around a single concept, drawn as an image in the center III of blank
page, to which associated representations of ideas such as images, words and
parts of words are added.
 Major ideas are connected directly to the central concept, and other ideas
branch out from those. Our Mind Mapping canvas is as given below.

11
CHAPTER 4 : EMPATHY CANVAS

FIG 4.1 EMPATHY CANVAS

12
 Empathy Map is the canvas where designer has to observe and understand
the emotional need of the user and on the basis of empathy of user he will
think of the solution.
 It is used to deliver a better user experience of system/service/product. The
discussion will be center on what was observed and what can be inferred
about these users group belief and emotions.
 An Empathy Map is just one tool that can help you empathies and synthesize
your observations from the research phase, and draw out unexpected insights
about your user’s needs.

USER:
 Family oriented
 Security Guard
 Disabled individuals
 Renter

ACTIVITIES:
 Smart locking door
 Alarm system
 Voice assistants
 Automated cleaning
 Receiving motion alert
 Monitoring energy usage
 Automated light

STAKEHOLDERS:
 Device manufacturers
 Technology providers
 Service providers
 Software developers

STORY BOARDING
HAPPY: A young girl named Anya had always loved to paint, but her cerebral
palsy made it difficult to hold a brush. With the help of a smart home, Anya was
able to explore her artistic passion. A specially designed, adaptive table allowed
her to control the canvas and brushes using a switch with assistance of her parents
and a speech to text programs Anya could express her creativity in the way she
never thought possible.

HAPPY: Rahul and Riya are living in smart home. It was a Saturday night,
Rahul and Riya were enjoying a movie in the living area. Their teenage daughters
was upstairs in her room. Suddenly Rahul’s phone buzzed with on urgent
notification: “smoke detected in the kitchen.” The smart fire detectors had already
initiated an automated response, all doors were unlocked. The system had also sent
an alert to the local fire department with location. They also felt their smart home
wasn’t just a collection of gadgets it was a guardian that had played a key role in
keeping their family safe.

SAD: Amazon virtual assistant Alexa has accidentally made some expensive
purchase for owner with children. One highly publicized incident was the case year
old who ordered a $170 Dollhouse and four pound of cookies through Alexa with
her parents realizing the mistake after the product arrived. Alexa as well as other
virtual assistant and smart devices have been triggered by unauthorised voice
command in the past. Now Amazon Echo require confirmation before sending the
order through. This feature prevent unintentional order.

SAD: Priya eagerly installed variety of smart devices, including smart locks,
lights and a home security system. However, she soon found the setup process to
be more complex than anticipated the devices often failed to sync properly, and
occurrence. The constant need for updates and maintenance added to her initial
excitement, Priya felt overwhelmed and regretted for domain decision, as the home
automation system become more of a burden than a convenience.

CHAPTER 5 :IDEATION CANVAS

FIG 5.1 Ideation canvas

 Ideation Canvas where first we started with people, where we simply thought
about the people for whom we want to solve the problem.
 Ideation is the creative process of generating, developing and communicating
new ideas, where an idea is understood as a basic element of thought that can
be visual, concrete or abstract. Ideation compromises all stages of thought
cycle, from innovation, to development, to actualization. As such, it is an
essential part of the design process, both in education and practice.
 An Ideation canvas is sheet where ideas can be stretched into any limits or
dimensions. Our ideation Canvas is as given above.

technology, there are still areas for further research and development. These
include addressing concerns related to privacy, data security, and interoperability
between different platforms and devices . As technology continues to evolve, we
can expect to see even more innovative and integrated smart home solutions
emerging in the years to come.
