Introduction

Mitsubishi  Engineering-Plastics  has  developed  a  high-grade  acetal  copolymer  using  the

Company's  proprietary  advanced  technologies.  lupital  is  a  high-grade  copolymer  type  of
acetal  resin  made  with  a  totally  new  process.  Our  integrated  production  system,  which
takes  the  raw  material  methanol  through  to  the  end  product  in  pellet  form,  enables  us  to
consistently  manufacture  and  supply  high-quality  products.

To  meet  a  wide  range  of  customer  requirements,  lupital  is  produced  in  a  variety  of  grades.
These  include  high-performance  grades,  which  make  lupital  ideal  for  applications  in  such
fields  as  electronics,  office  automation  equipment,  automobiles  and  precision  machinery.

Due  to  extensive  technological  know-how  accumulated  through  long  experience,

Mitsubishi  Engineering-Plastics  is  the  top  producer  in  this  field.  From  applied  processing
technology  for  grade  development  to  strict  quality  control  technology,  we  have  the
capability  to  respond  to  an  array  of  customer  needs.

1
Features  of  lupital

lupital is  a  crystalline  polymer  with  a  molecular  structure  of

-[CH2-O]n-[CH2-CH2-O]m- and “C-C” bond-producing  copolymer  features.

• Well-balanced  mechanical  properties  and  high  fatigue  resistance

• Excellent  anticreep properties

• Excellent  low  friction  and  anti-wear  properties

• Wide  range  of  operating  temperatures

• High  oil  and  organic  chemical  resistance

• Excellent  thermal  stability  in  molding

2
Grades  and  Special  Features

lupital  is  available  in  a  variety  of  grades  to  suit  many  applications.  The  appropriate  grade  is  selected  in  accordance
with  the  function  required  for  a  given  application.

lupital  can  be  delivered  as  colored  pellets  for  various  applications.
In  addition,  color  concentrates  (master  batches)  are  available  upon  request.

Mechanical  Properties

lupital  offers  superior  mechanical  properties,  including  high  strength,  high  impact  resistance  and  toughness.  lupital
also  maintains  these  properties  over  a  wide  temperature  range.
As  lupital  is  one  of  the  strongest  engineering  plastics  available,  it  is  an  ideal  replacement  for  mechanical  moving  parts
made  of  metal.

Resistance  under  Cyclic  Stress

lupital  provides  superior  resistance  under  cyclic  stress  and  is  suitable  for  applications  such  as  gears,  springs  and
snapfitting  devices.

Resistance  under  Creep  Stress
and  Relaxation  Characteristics  under  Stress
Superior  in  its  ability  to  resist  creep  stress  and  to  relax  under  stress,  lupital  has  a  long  lifespan  under  such  conditions.
lupital  is  well  suited  for  mechanical  assembly  devices  such  as  insert  injection  moldings,  press-fittings  and  self-tapping
devices.

Friction  and  Wear-Resistance  Characteristics

Low  friction  and  wear  resistance  are  lupital's  main  characteristics,  which  make  it  ideal  for  sliding  mechanical  parts
such  as  gears,  bearings  and  pinch  rollers.
For  applications  requiring  low  friction  or  high  wear  resistance,  special  grades  of  lupital  are  recommended.  The  FX-
11(J)  grade  is  highly  recommended  for  low-noise  applications,  such  as  gears.

12
Dimensional  Stability

lupital  has  good  dimensional  stability  after  a  long  period  of  use.  After  the  shrinkage  of  an  injection  molding  is
completed  (approximately  2  days),  lupital  dimensions  remain  stable  permanently.
In  addition,  lupital's  low  water  absorption  makes  dimensional  changes  extremely  minimal.  This  means  lupital  is  well
suited  for  high  precision  parts  such  as  gears  and  electronic  devices.

13
Heat  Resistance

lupital's  high  heat  resistance  makes  it  ideal  for  use  under  high  temperature  conditions.
Applications  include  vehicle  engine  parts  and  valves  for  hot  water.

14
Chemical  Resistance

A  major  characteristic  of  lupital  is  its  high  chemical  resistance.  With  the  exception  of  strong  acids  such  as
hydrochloric  acid  and  sulfuric  acid,  lupital  has  extremely  high  resistance  to  organic  solvents,  oils,  grease  and
synthetic  chemicals.  lupital  is  therefore  suitable  for  applications  involving  contact  with  chemicals  and  oils,  including
vehicle  parts,  pumps  and  lubricated  gears.

Weather  Resistance

Aside  from  long  outdoor  use  or  exposure  to  direct  sunlight,  lupital  standard  grades  are  suitable  for  applications
involving  exposure  to  light.  For  applications  such  as  interior  and  exterior  automobile  parts  and  window  parts  exposed
to  sunlight,  lupital  weather-resistant  grades  are  highly  recommended.

19
Electrical  Properties

lupital  has  well-balanced  electrical  properties.  For  applications  requiring  antistatic  or  electrical  conductivity,  special
antistatic  and  electrically  conductive  grades  are  recommended.

Carbon  agitator  for  a  copying  machine Coil  bobbins

20
Injection  Molding  Characteristics

lupital  has  excellent  characteristics  for  injection  molding  and  is  easily  molded  using  ordinary  injection  machines  under
normal  conditions.  lupital  can  be  molded  at  a  resin  temperature  of  approximately  200℃ and  has  high  fluidity.

21
lupital  has  excellent  heat  stability  for  injection  molding,  maintaining  low  discoloration  and  low  deterioration  under  the
tough  conditions  existing  in  injection  molding  machines.

Use  of  recycled  lupital  causes  almost  no  deterioration  during  injection  molding.  Moreover,  lupital  provides  extremely
low  mold  deposits  and  good  stability  even  during  long  periods  of  injection  molding.
