20JF Firewater deluge systems, jet fire rated (5 minutes dry).
20JF-C Identical to 20JF, except it has an electrically conductive exterior.
110FW 110mil liner product for corrosive chemical environments.
Please refer to the notes for each item in this document as the pressure rating
may vary from the standard product.
March 2010: Clarified pressure ratings for all items. Removed the branch on elbow for
sizes 3” and smaller.
February 2010: Clarified that the Flanged 90 Elbows and ANSI Flanged Elbows can not
be machined for grooves to fit an o-ring gasket.
April 2008: Added page on special tees, Fig.40PPF and 40F3. Added page on crosses,
Fig.70.

FIBERBOND®
Engineered Composite Piping Systems
Example No.1: One of the advantages of the FIBERBOND® butt weld system is the use of “olets” (also
called “saddles”) for branch connections. For reducing connections, "olets" can be used instead of
reducing tees. These olets are constructed simply but cutting a hole in the header pipe and "stubbing in"
the branch connection to fit the contour. Then, the branch is laminated to the header to provide the
needed mechanical properties.
Another advantage is the lack of couplings. FIBERBOND® pipes and fittings have plain ends so there is
no need for couplings nor nipples to weld a flange to an elbow or any fitting to another fitting. Both of
these advantages can greatly reduce the number of welds in the system.
20
FIBERBOND®
Engineered Composite Piping Systems
Example No.2: Note how the Figure 10 flange neck length can be adjusted for various dimensions. By
taking advantage of this option, welds can be eliminated in the piping system.
This example also shows the limits of "pup" pieces between fittings. While it is preferred that the
standard dimension from Fig.1 be used for a "pup" piece, shorter pieces can be shop fabricated. If
absolutely necessary, it is possible to weld lengths of pipe as short as 1/2" between two fittings. This
practice should be carried out in a shop-controlled environment.
21
FIBERBOND®
Engineered Composite Piping Systems
Example No.3: There are some options available for flanges on tees. In this example, the dimension
from the center of the pipe to the flanged branch is limited to 16" which is possible for this size. Normally,
a full-size Fig.40 tee and a Fig.10 flange would be used (takeout would have been 16" + 10" = 2'-2").
The use of the Fig.40 and Fig.10 fittings would be preferred, but this option can be utilized when space is
limited. The maximum pressure rating for this type of fitting is usually 200psig for 20HV, 20FR-E,
20FR16, and 20FR20 and 150psig for 110FW and 20C.
22
FIBERBOND®
Engineered Composite Piping Systems
Example No.4: Branch connections must be spaced properly to meet the pressure requirements of the
system. Crosses are allowed at pressures up to 100psig (up to 16”; 50psig above this size), but above
this, they are not allowed. The only exception to this is in Example No.5.
Spacing branches closer can be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. The standard spacing is normally
required to allow room for the reinforced pad and “gussets” on the branches. But, in some cases, it is
possible to overlap these pads and gussets.
23
FIBERBOND®
Engineered Composite Piping Systems
Example No.5: While it is preferred to locate all branch connections using Fig.46 and Fig.48, there is an
exception with the 2" branch connection. Because of its small size, a 2" branch can be located in many
different parts of the system, including on tees and elbows. They can also be located opposite each
other without derating the system.
