Expanding Fronts Manual Installation Guide
Expanding Fronts Manual Installation Guide
If you downloaded the mod as a zip file, open the zip file and locate the GAME folder (note the all CAPS).
When doing a clean / new install of the mod, be sure you download the “Full” version and not the
“Patch” version. The "Patch" versions are only for people who have the previous version of the mod
installed and they do not contain all the content needed to run the mod.
Please note that Expanding Fronts requires the Clone Campaigns expansion or the Saga
version of the game. If you do not have Galactic Battlegrounds Saga, you can buy it from
Steam or GOG.
Ensure that you do not already have any other mods installed that would interfere with
Expanding Fronts, such as the "All In One Patch". If so, please reinstall Galactic Battlegrounds so
that you have a clean/fresh/new installation of the game. We do not offer support for other mods, so
use them at your own risk and please don't trouble us with your issues when you do so.
If your Windows user account does not have full permissions to write files in Program Files,
then install Galactic Battlegrounds someplace where a non-elevated user can write to before
installing the mod, such as somewhere within your Windows User folder.
Your SWGB installation folder should look like this:
The next step is to merge the GAME folder with the Game folder located in your Galactic
Battlegrounds installation folder. To be clear, you want all of the contents inside the GAME folder to
go inside the Game folder. DO NOT put the GAME folder itself inside the Game folder! The easiest
way to merge the folders is to drag-drop the GAME folder into the STAR WARS - Galactic
Battlegrounds installation folder like so:
Please note that copy/paste most likely will not work within your zip utility application, unless you
are using Windows Explorer to open the zip file. If drag-dropping folders from your zip utility into
another folder is not an option, then just extract the zip file somewhere and manually move the GAME
folder to your STAR WARS - Galactic Battlegrounds folder.
If prompted to overwrite existing files, click yes. It will only replace essential files for the mod, not
your user-created maps, scenarios, etc.
Make certain that you have found the correct Game folder! It should be located inside your STAR
WARS - Galactic Battlegrounds installation folder, it is NOT your Windows User "Games"
folder!!
If your battlegrounds_x2.exe file is located in your Game folder, then you did it right.
If your battlegrounds_x2.exe file is located in Game\GAME, then you did it wrong. Do not drag-
drop the GAME folder directly over the Game folder or any other folder, otherwise it will create a new
GAME folder inside that folder. The path will be wrong and you will get errors.
Run battlegrounds_x2.exe to start the mod. On the first time you run the mod, a "First Run"
process will begin to convert the original game's assets over to the new color palette for Expanding
Fronts. If you experience any issues or errors with getting the game to run, or to display correctly,
please look over our troubleshooting FAQ in the EFREADME.pdf for some solutions.
We also have a #troubleshooting-faq channel in our Discord server. If you join our server to get
help with an issue, please ensure that you have carefully read through all the solutions posted there
AND that you have carefully read through these installation instructions BEFORE you request help.
Most people's issues are the result of not properly installing the mod as instructed in this document.
Windows 10 users probably will need to apply a Windows 7 compatibility mode in the
Properties window for the battlegrounds_x2.exe. This should prevent errors regarding
DirectDraw.
If you are launching the game from Steam, it will launch battlegrounds_x1.exe, which is Clone
Campaigns, not Expanding Fronts. You can add Expanding Fronts to Steam as a non-steam game
with these steps: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2219-YDJV-5557
Next you should set up the resolution patch with the Configurator tool. Open the
configurator.exe file in your Game folder. When launching the configurator, there are options to
set your desired resolution, windowed mode, and more.
We also highly recommend that you use windowed mode. Full screen mode can have some display
issues for many people. You can mimic full screen mode by using your monitor's highest resolution
in windowed mode. Also note that the main menu does not change resolution. The resolution
changes once you enter a game match or the scenario editor. You may also want to ensure that the
in-game resolution is set to the highest available setting for the resolution patch to work correctly.
As of version 1.4.0, the cursor is locked to the window in windowed mode. If you want to unlock
your cursor, then set UseCursorClip=0 in your wndmode.ini file within the Game directory.
