GRADE LEVEL STANDARDS: The learner demonstrates communicative
competence through his/ her understanding of literature and other texts types for a
deeper appreciation of World Literature, including Philippine Literature.
LEARNING COMPETENCY: Evaluating and making judgements about range of
text using a set of criteria.

I. Objectives
At the end of the 45-minute session, the students should be able to:
a) Determine the elements that add value to a text;
b) Compare arguments in persuasive essays; and
c) Evaluate and make judgments about a range of texts using a set of criteria.

C. Motivation

“Arrange the jumbled words!”


The teacher will flash and discuss the direction in the class, there are cube that need
to pass until the music stop and the students that have the cube until the music stop
will answer the questions.
1. TEMH- the central deeper meaning of a written work that the author conveys or
implies to the reader.
2. SHEIS- long piece of writing based on your own ideas and research that you do as
part of a university degree, especially a higher degree.
3. FLOCCINT- a struggle or an opposition.
4. VEEDNICE- an iten or information proffered to make the existence of a fact more or
less probable.
5. THRACERCAS- a person represented in a movie, play or story.

D. Lesson ProperContent and Skill Building

Textual aids- are tools that provide graphical outlines, images, or other visual
representations to facilitate understanding of texts.

What is the purpose of Textual Aids?

-Vacca and Vacca(1993) believe that the use of graphic aids in text will provide
students with the opportunity to decide what parts of the text are important, and
how ideas and concepts in the text are related.

Example of Textual Aids

1. Title
2. Advance Graphic Organizer
3. Non-linear Illustrations

1. Title- Refers to the name of a text. Placed at the beginning before the article.
Tells about the entire text particularly the main idea or the topic.

2. Advance Graphic Organizers- Known as text features are the visual displays
of key content information. These help to clearly visualize how ideas are organized
within a text of surrounding a concept.

Types of Advance Graphic Organizers

Concept map- Organizer that shows a central idea with its corresponding
characteristics.

Flow/Sequence Chart- Shows a series of steps or events in which they take

place.

Venn Diagram- Used to identify the similarities and difference between two or
more concepts.
The teacher will discuss the following using the PowerPoint Presentation:

Diagram- Is a series of pictures with captions showing steps, stages, or the


progression of events, explains steps in a progress of events, explains steps in a
process or how something is made.

Cutaway- Is a picture of an object with part of the side dissolved, partially


revealing the inside. It allows the reader to visualize both the interior and exterior
of a person, place or thing in the text.

Storyboard- Is composed of series of boxes with pictures or illustrations about the


events happened in the story/text.

E. Application
In this activity, the teacher will group the class in five groups then the students
will brainstorm about literature, and they will choose the appropriate textual
aid to use in the activity. The students will write their output in a clean whole
sheet of paper.

Content= 10 points
Creativity = 5 points
Mechanics = 5 points
Total = 20 points
