IntegralFormulas

This document outlines integral formulas and problems for a mathematics course, organized by difficulty levels: procedural, conceptual, and synthesis. It includes examples of derivatives and antiderivatives, specific antiderivative problems, and real-world applications involving velocity and chemical dumping rates. Additionally, it addresses cost functions related to production and profit calculations.

MATH1045 SRS Integral Formulas 1

These materials are organized in order of difficulty with procedural knowledge first, basic conceptual prob-
lems second and then fully synthesized (multi-step) problems at the end. For each SRS week, a combination
of these levels should be used from each section covered the previous week in class.

4. Finding specific antiderivatives:

(a) Find a formula for F (x), the specific antiderivative of f (x) = 2e2x + 3x2 with F (0) = 5.

(b) Find a formula for G(x), the specific antiderivative of g(x) = 2x2 + 3x − 2 with G(3) = 8.5.

(c) Find a formula for H(x), the specific antiderivative of h(x) = 0.5x1.3 + 1.3x with H(0) = 0.

(d) Find a formula for J(x), the specific antiderivative of j(x) = 3 sin(x) + 2ex with J(0) = 9.

5. A bottle rocket is launched off the top of a building 20 ft off the ground. If the velocity of the
rocket t seconds after its launched is given by v(t) = −15t2 + 120t + 80 ft per second, find a formula
for H(t), the height of the rocket t seconds after launch. (Hint: find a specific antiderivative! )

6. A factory is dumping a dangerous chemical into a lake. The factory is dumping at a rate of
P ′ (t) = 300 + 200t tons per year, where t is years since 2009.

(a) Write a definite integral that represents the amount dumped in the first b years after 2009.
(b) In 2009, there were already 10,000 tons of the chemical in the lake. Write a formula for P (t),
including units, the amount of the chemical in the lake t years after 2009.
(c) Ecologists estimate that the lake can handle about 20,000 tons of this chemical before the fish
start dying off. How long will the factory be able to continue dumping before the chemical
starts killing the fish?

7. A company producing jackets knows its marginal cost function at production level q is
700
C ′ (q) =
0.4q + 5

(a) If fixed costs are $3,000, find the total cost of producing 25 jackets.
(b) If the jackets are sold for $250 each, what is the profit on 25 jackets?
