10 " The Ballad of Father Gilligan" is a moving poem by W.B. Yeats

that present the struggles of an old priest named Peter Gilligan, who
is devoted to this flock and troubled by their suffering and mortality.
The poem uses various poetic devices to convey the theme and
imagery of the poem.
The theme of the poem is the universal human experience of
suffering, death, and the search for redemption. Father Gilligan's
weariness and grief, as well as his struggle to reconcile his own
physical limitations with his spiritual duty, are conveyed through
the powerful imagery of the poem. The metaphor of the " month- 5
hour of the eve" suggests the fragility of life, and the image of
people " under green sods" highlights the inevitability of death.

The poem also uses repetition, as the old priest repeats his lament of
"people die and die" and his plea for God's forgiveness. The
repletion's reinforces the sense of Father Gilligan's anguish and his
spiritual crisis, as well as the cycle of life and death that he sees
around him.

Overall, "The Ballad of Father Gilligan" is a poignant and deeply

moving poem that reflects on the human condition and the search
for meaning in the face of mortality. The use of vivid imagery,
repletion, and other poetic devices makes the poem a powerful
expression of universal themes and emotions.
