Course Description:
The success of an organization largely depends on the utilization of its human resources. This
course will expose students the approaches and processes of HRM that can help in managing
people in organizations effectively. This course would cover all the basic HR functions like
job analysis, HR planning, recruitment & selection, training & development, performance
appraisal, and compensation and benefit management.
Course Rationale:
In today's dynamic business environment, effective human resources management is
undoubtedly the driving force behind the success of the organization. Recognizing the
contributions of people and their unique value is the fundamental to building a great business.
Human resource management can play an excellent role in aligning human skill and
aspiration towards organizational effectiveness. Thus, students will have the opportunity to
appreciate what it takes to make a difference in their organization.
Course Objectives:
This course is designed to:
i. equip students with modern, theories, practices, tools and techniques of human
resource management;
ii. develop the knowledge, skills and concepts needed to resolve HR and
organizational problems or issues;
iii. develop students' insight into those critical factors which are crucial in
formulating and implementing successful management strategy with special
reference to Bangladesh.
Course Learning Outcomes (CLO):
Students will be able to:
CLO 1: gain knowledge regarding various theories, models and frameworks of human
resource management;
CLO 2: analyze overall impact of human factors over the business;
CLO 3: aligning human skill and motivation with the business strategy;
CLO 4: develop organization through human development;
CLO 5: accomplish strategic business goals through people management.
Teaching and Learning Style:
The styles would be as follows:
1. Classroom discussion; 2. Individual assignment; 3. Guest lecture (depends on the
availability of the guest); and 4. Term-project (group assignment) report submission with
group presentation (For term paper, each group may have to visit the selected organization).

Grading System: As per university guideline

Individual Assignment: The instructions for individual assignment will be distributed soon
after the first class, and details will be uploaded in the eLMS portal soon.
Project (Group Assignment): Group assignment will be distributed in the 4 th or 5th Week of
the trimester. Group members are required to visit the organization to write a report for the
final assignment and presentation.
