EEE4484 Immersive Augmented and Virtual Reality Engineering


Mini Project

Introduction
In this mini project, you are going to apply the AR/VR technologies to solve a practical
engineering problem. In this project, you need to:
(1) identify a problem in daily life
(2) explain how the XR technologies can solve this problem
(3) develop the app
(4) present and demonstrate XR Apps
(5) produce a report to document the development process

This mini project makes up 50% of the total marks of this module.
Form a group of THREE students to complete this mini project.

Part (a) 20%


In this part, you need to prepare a powerpoint and present your mini project to the
class.
(1) Present the problem that you want to solve.
(2) Determine the title of your mini project.
(3) Explain how the XR technologies can solve the problem.
(4) Explain Briefly the procedure in using your XR Apps.
(5) Determine a list of items to be produced. E.g. 2D images, 3D object models,
animation, Apps etc.
(6) The benefit/advantages in using your Apps

Submission method:
Name your powerpoint file as “GroupXX.ppt”. XX is your group number. Only one of you
should submit your powerpoint to moodle before presentation.

Part (b) (30%)


In this part, you need to prepare a report and present your mini project. In your report,
you should address the following issues:
(1) The title of your mini project.
(2) The problem that to be solved
(3) Your ideas in solving the problem
(4) Feasibility study
(5) Explain how the XR technologies can solve the problem.
(6) Project description
(7) Software design
(8) Functionalities
(9) Explain the procedure in using your Apps.
(10) The benefit/advantages in using your Apps.
(11) Tasks breakdown and allocation for report drafting
(12) Screen captures of results
(13) Conclusion
(14) Future modification
(15) References

Part (c) (50%)


In this part, your development works will be evaluated.
(1) Completeness of the functionalities about the XR Apps.
(2) The performance of the XR Apps. (Less bugs. User experience?)
(3) The technical involvement of each individual students.
(4) The integration of each individual works.
(5) Demonstrate the use of your Apps (Video with 1.5min)

Final Submission method:


(1) The report
(2) PowerPoint file
(3) The source file of the AR Apps project (Zip the whole Unity project file),
(4) The APK/Build file of your Apps, and,
(5) The video showing your demo.

Zip all these five items into a file named “GroupXX.zip” where XX is your group
number. Upload this zip file to the Moodle.
