Q1 Lab 1 - Value of functions First Year

1. Follow the directions given below and construct a GeoGebra applet. (4)

• Draw the graph of the function f (x) = sin x


• Create a slider a with Increment 0.1
• Plot the points A = (a, 0), B = (a, f (a)) and C = (0, f (a))
• Draw the line segments AB and BC
• Create input boxes for f and a.

2. Using above applet find the value of only one having mark from the following (2)

(i) sin 3.2 (ii) sin 4.3 (iii) sin 1.8


3. Using above applet answer only one question having mark from the following (2)

(i) Write the method of finding an approximate value of 3.6 and find its value.

(ii) Write the method of finding an approximate value of 4.2 and find its value.

(iii) Write the method of finding an approximate value of 2.8 and find its value.

Q2 Lab 2 - Shifting of Graphs First Year

1. Follow the directions given below and construct a GeoGebra applet. (2)

• Draw the graph of the function f (x) = x2


• Create two sliders a and b with Min = -5, Max = 5 and increment 0.01
• Draw the graph of the function g(x) using the input command g(x)=f(x+a)+b
• Create an input box for the function f

2. Answer the following questions

(a) Fix the values of a and b at 0. Then increase the value of b to 2. (2)
i. What happens to the graph of g(x)?
ii. What is the domain and range of g(x) ?
(b) Find the values of a and b so that the graph of g(x) coincides with the graph (2)

of the following function. (Answer only one question having mark)

(i) x2 − 6x + 10 (ii) x2 + 4x + 7 (iii) x2 − 2x + 4

Q3 Lab 12 - Basics of 3D First Year

1. Write the coordinates of a points that lies in the given octants and plot them using (2)

input command.(Consider only one having mark)
(i) 3rd Octant, 5th Octant
(ii) 2nd Octant, 6t h Octant
(iii) 4th Octant, 7th Octant

2. Write two points A and B satisfying the given condition. (2)



(Consider only one having mark)
(i) xy plane divides the line joining A and D externaly
(ii) xz plane divides the line joining A and B internaly
(iii) yz plane divides the line joining A and B externaly
Plot the points, join CD and verify your answer by drawing the corresponding plane. (Input command
for coordinate planes : xy plane z=0 yz plane x=0 xz plane y=0)

3. Write the coordinates of the vertices of a rectangular prism of sides 3,4,3 so that base lies in (4)
the first quadrant of xy plane and the top in the first octant. Construct the prism.
Hint : Plot the vertices of the base −→ Draw the base using ‘ polygon’ tool −→ using
‘ Extrude to prism’ tool, click on the base and enter the height

Q4 Lab 18 - Functions Second Year

1. Draw the graph of the function f : R −→ R and say whether it is one to one or on to. (2)

Write the reason.(Consider only one question, having mark).
(i) f (x) = 2x4 + 4x3 + 1

(ii) f (x) = 3x3 + 3x + 1

(iii) f (x) = x3 + x + 1


2. Consider only one function, having mark.

(i) f (x) = x2 + 4x + 5 (ii) f (x) = x2 − 6x + 10 (iii) f (x) = 2x2 − 4x + 3

(a) Draw the graph of above function, observe the graph and find its range. (1)
(b) Redefine the domain and codomain of the function to make it a bijection. (1)
(c) Draw the graph of the function in the restricted domain.(Example for the input
command :- If the restricted domain of f (x) is [3, ∞) give the input command f,x>=3). (1)

3. Consider only one function, having mark.

(i) 3 sin(2x) (ii) 2 sin(2x) (iii) 3 cos(2x)

Open a GeoGebra window and make an initial setting as follows.

Right click on the Graphics view → Graphics → x axis → Distance → Enter pi/4

(a) Draw the graph of above function, observe the graph and find its range. (1)
(b) Redefine the domain and codomain of the function to make it a bijection. (1)
(c) Draw the graph of the function in the restricted domain.(Example for the input
command :- If the restricted domain of f (x) is [− π2 , π, ] give the input command
f,-pi/2<=x<=pi). (1)
