D. Presentation
Today we will learn about addition.
Now when we add two or more
numbers the total or the result is
called the sum.

Presentation 1
Show the pupils the counting materials
(sticks, pins, pebbles, beads) Beads, sticks, pebbles.
Can you name what these objects are?
Yes, now these objects can help you in
adding.
Let’s try it first by pair. One pupil will count and keep the
first number then the second pupil
will count and keep the second
number, after you collect the
number of items, place them all
on the table and count the total of
items that you have by pair.

Write the sum of the items on the Pair 1: beads

board. 16+21 = 37
Pair 1: beads Pair 2: Sticks
16+21 = 11+26 = 37
Pair 2: Sticks Pair 3: Pebbles
11+26 = 9+25 = 34
Pair 3: Pebbles Pair 4: pucks
9+25 = 8+11 = 19
Pair 4: pucks
8+11 = The pupils will do so.

Good Job, now I want all pairs to

put their items in one table. And count
it individually.
I want you to write how many
items we have on the table on a piece
of paper and write your name on it too.

How many items have you

counted?

Alright I can hear different answers 34 pebbles

so let us all add the items that we 37 sticks
have here in the table. 37 beads
How many pebbles were their? 19 pucks
How about sticks?
Now beads?
And last how many pucks?

Correct now let us all add them. There are 127 items on the table.
34+37+37+19 = 127
The sum is also 127.
Now how many items do we have
in the table?
And the sum of 34+37+37+19 is?

Correct, amazing. Each pupil will get their 50 pieces

of the items.
Presentation 2
Alright I want each and every one
of you to get 50 pieces it’s up to you if
you want beads, pucks, sticks or
pebbles.
Alright, since you have your Pupil 1: 12+15 =
counting materials I want you to bring 33+8 =
out piece of paper where you can Pupil 2: 22+14 =
write. 22+7=
Each pupil will have different Pupil 3: 28+22 =
problems and will work on their own. 16+13 =
Pupil 4: 25+25 =
19+25=
Pupil 5: 33+11 =
23+14 =
Pupil 6: 27+14 =
26+9 =
Pupil 7: 44+6 =
35+13=
Pupil 8: 17+16 =
21+23=
Yes
The pupils will check each other’s
work if they are correct.

Yes/no
Alright are you all done?
Okay then I want you to exchange
your work with one of your classmate
and let them check.
So how was the work of your
classmate was is it correct?
Alright, let us all check if you got the
sum correct.
Pupil 1: 12+15 = 27
33+8 =41
Pupil 2: 22+14 =36
22+7= 29
Pupil 3: 28+22 =50
16+13 =29
Pupil 4: 25+25 =50
19+25=44
Pupil 5: 33+11 =44
23+14 = 37
Pupil 6: 27+14 =41
26+9 =35
Pupil 7: 44+6 =50
35+13=48
Pupil 8: 17+16 =33
21+23=44

Alright I can see that you all got it

correctly.
Good job.
E. Application
Okay now I want you to add 50 more pieces of items in your pile and
answer the following.
44+27= 23+48= 32+29= 43+30= 51+27=

69+23= 35+56 22+58= 12+76= 55+23=

F. Generalization
What did we learn today? We learned about addition.
Yes, and when you add two or more
numbers together what is it called? Sum
Yes, and we need to learn about
addition because every day we are
adding something.
For example every year on your
birthday you add 1 year to your
age. If you are 13 years old today,
how old will you be after 5 years? 18 years old.
Correct, see addition is in our daily
lives.

IV. Evaluation
Find the sum.

1. 84 +13= 6. 23+45=

2. 76+12= 7. 45+23=

3. 16+48+ 8. 57+23=

4. 18+57= 9. 37+47=

5. 65+35= 10. 46+21=

V. ASSIGNMENT
Find the sum.
123 263 126 199 187
+ 31 + 34 + 25 + 56 + 34
+ 9 + 3 + 7 + 2 + 6
