Apply Font Properties in Excel

Applying font properties in Excel allows you to customize the appearance of text in your
spreadsheet. Here's how you can apply font properties such as font type, size, color, bold, italic,
underline, and more:

1. Change Font Type and Size

1. Select the cell or range of cells where you want to change the font.
2. Go to the Home tab on the ribbon.
3. In the Font group:
o Use the Font dropdown to select a font type (e.g., Arial, Calibri).
o Use the Font Size dropdown to select a font size (e.g., 11, 12, 14).

2. Apply Bold, Italic, or Underline

1. Select the cell or range of cells.


2. In the Font group on the Home tab:
o Click the B icon to make the text bold.
o Click the I icon to italicize the text.
o Click the U icon to underline the text.

3. Change Font Color

1. Select the cell or range of cells.


2. In the Font group on the Home tab:
o Click the Font Color icon (an "A" with a color bar underneath).
o Choose a color from the dropdown palette.

4. Apply Strikethrough, Superscript, or Subscript

1. Select the cell or range of cells.


2. Open the Format Cells dialog box:

o Or press Ctrl + 1.
3. Go to the Font tab.

5. Change Text Alignment

6. Apply Cell Styles

2. In the Styles group on the Home tab:
o Click Cell Styles to apply predefined styles that include font properties.

7. Use Format Painter

1. Select a cell with the desired font properties.


2. Click the Format Painter icon (a paintbrush) in the Clipboard group on the Home tab.
3. Click and drag over the cells where you want to apply the same font properties.

8. Keyboard Shortcuts

• Bold: Ctrl + B
• Italic: Ctrl + I
• Underline: Ctrl + U
• Open Format Cells: Ctrl + 1
