Executive summary

In this summer an internship program is very important and essential for acquiring experience
through learning and spreading the scope of knowledge .The report has been divided into some
parts that are described gradually. Financial institutions have very wide range of activities in
the economy of the country and they are the most important one in the financial sectors. Awash
Bank is one of those institution having its own structure, mission, vision, objectives and core
values. In the organization there is vice president, employee of bank, consultant performing a
mission or service for the bank we call bank personal. Awash bank has different function and
there is some division of section like account opening section, remittance section, clearing
section and cash section. There are different activities during attachment period and I have
learnt a lot of things about the bank and I take a sort of skill and experience. Lastly, I
recommended what I seen during internship period.

INTRODUCTION
1.1 Objectives of the internship program
General objectives
The primary objective of this internship is to gain valuable insights in to the business
sector and to relate the theoretical knowledge with the practical experience to acquire a
responsible accounting job position in business firm by showcasing my accounting
knowledge/experience and strong leadership ability.

Specific objective
 To acquire the knowledge about the activities performed in different departments.

 To understand different banking procedures carried out in the branch.

 To increase communication skill and interpersonal skill.

To know how theories and concepts are applied in practice.

 To boost up the confidence level.

1.2 Scope of the exploration


The scope of this internship is that I focused on the business decision-making,
behavior of the company, and finance management department as accounting my
scope depends on area of study.

1.3 Significance of the internship


This internship in an opportunity to network with great people and sharpen my skills
before entering the workforce.it also helps tremendously with figuring out my true

passion. Companies often look at them as a way to gain experience and exposure to
make a smooth transition into my role when hired. It helps me to develop written
communication skills and serve as an archival record of internship experience.
Finally it enabled me to convert the theoretical part that I learned in class into
practice.

1.4 Methodology of the Report

This report has been prepared on the basis of experience gathered during
the period of internship and my own learn and understanding. The entire process
has been made by collecting primary data which played a vital role and easy to
write down the report and secondary data was needed for supportive structured
buildup to the report I have designed the methodology or the method in which
way the data will be collected in the following way:
 Primary data sources: Inspection in different desks, talking with employee’s in the
office and organized and planned analysis are the main resources.
 Secondary data sources: Brochures, website of the bank etc are the
secondary data sources. Extensive and elaborate study of the existing files,
convenient case clarifications, observation interview with the employee were done
to identify the execution and control and monitoring process of the banking system.

CHAPTER TWO
Background of the organization

Awash Bank is Ethiopia's pioneering private bank established in 1994 with a vision to be the
preferred financial services provider and a mission to provide innovative and accessible banking
services using technology and skilled staff. It has over 700 branches nationwide serving
individual and institutional customers through various deposit, loan, transfer and digital banking
products.

Awash Bank, as one of the prominent private banks in Ethiopia, has made significant strides
since its establishment. With a growing number of shareholders and an increasing paid-up
capital, the bank has demonstrated its appeal and trustworthiness within the financial sector. As
of June 2020, Awash Bank's total assets amounted to Birr 95.6 billion, illustrating its substantial
financial presence in the country.

The Adea Berga branch, opened in 2014, has quickly become a key player in the banking
industry within the region. With a team of 17 employees comprising both male and female staff
members, the branch is well-equipped to handle the financial needs of customers in Enchine
town and the surrounding areas. The branch has almost 40,000 customers. By offering a wide
range of services, including customer deposits, credit facilities, and foreign exchange transfers,
the branch has established itself as a reliable and efficient banking institution.

Overall Organizational work flow

How the organization is organized to achieve objectives and mission?

All departments in this organization are related to each other. The other department can control
the activity of other. Also on their daily activities they must report to the body which controls
each department. Also they control each other to minimize the problem on job, to be fair and
acceptable by every department. To achieve the objective and vision they obey responsibility for
the job given to all departments. Let we see to how they control each other; The customer
service officer reports the daily activity to the A/senior customer service officer. Also pass all
physical tickets done on transaction daily to the branch controller to ensure their activity by
comparing the recorded transaction on the system. A/senior customer service reports his or her
activity to the customer service manager. Customer service manager reports to branch manager.
Branch controller passes all tickets to senior branch controller after ensured the balance on
physical counted tickets and on system became equal. Then senior branch controller again
checks and report to branch manager. So finally all activity in bank is controlled by the manager
of the bank.

each department. Also they control each other to minimize the problem on job, to be fair and

CHAPTER THREE
ACTIVITY REPORT

3.1 Experiences and Skills

I had worked as an Internee in Awash Bank for two months as required by University.
During my Internship, there was a tremendous atmosphere in Awash Bank. I learned so many
things from their management like how to work in a standard place. They are using their own
made software which is used by Bank for online transactions.

 The most important benefit of this internship is that I got practical exposure
of work place
 I got practical experience of working practices related with my field.
 I learned that how to manage things and how to create balance among work life and
personal life.
 These learned management practices are going to be very helpful for me while on job.
 Management experience from every aspect was really very much friendly.

 During my internship I experienced how to talk and behave with employees and
senior management.
 I experianced that the behavioral issues are most important inside the
organization. Customers feel satisfied when they are behaved properly. The
misbehavior and the delay in providing service adversely affect the organizational image
.
 Intern learnt that the important aspects for effective customer service includes
knowing customer’s need, identifying key services activities and delivering superior
service and followup.
 Lastly, I learnt an idea and insight knowledge of work environment and
organization culture. I learnt how theories and concepts are applied in practice in the
day-to-day business operation and tackle problems and handle objection in work
place. The internship program was very helpful to boost up the confidence level of the
intern.

3.2 Strength, weakness, opportunity and treat (SWOT) analysis of


the organization

The Awash Bank of Adea Berga branch is private organization has its strength and weakness
side there are also have good opportunities and treats that speed up and fast the bank over all
work process respectively.

3.2.1 Strength of the Bank

 Respecting the law of the organization.


 Good efficiency and ethical conduct of staffs.
 It gives training for its employees to improve their profession.
 It gives excellence service for its customer which most of its customers get satisfaction in
proper manner.

3.2.2. Weakness of the Bank

 There is some inefficient materials: like chair, tables and computers.


 There is lack or shortage of deposit.
 Sometimes there is net work connection problem
 Rarely there is misunderstanding of employees and customers

 Steady and fast growth of population is good opportunity for increase bank customer.
 Availability of educated man power in the town.
 Development of information technology.
 Strategic position of the bank.

If the organization follows the current organizational structure for the future may face

problems observed that affect the organization at current time and


its critical issues of the Bank

The primary problem regarding the historical back ground of the organization. This problem
rises due to lack of organized and return document in the organization.

 There is no Wi-Fi in the bank.

 Lack of sufficient written document about the organization.

 Some employees are not use their time properly

 File management and documentation improperly among some workers.

 There is no internet access in the organization

 Connection problem

3.3. Major problems that I faced during my internship practice

There are some problems which affect me on my activities of two months. Some of these
problems are from the organization and some are from customers. From customers some
customers don’t care about criteria’s to be fulfilled properly rather than looking only about the
service.

 Some of them don’t sign on the ticket and some signature on the ticket and on the book
are different
 No correct order of sender name which is difficult to serve customer
 Some of them bring incorrect account which the system is not read
I faced many problems, at the time of this practical attachment and the major ones are
mentioned as follow as:-

 At the beginning time they didn’t give me full freedom to do activities independently.
 Condition Problem like rain, cold and etc.
 Shortage of some extra or additional working materials like chair and computers for
trainers.

 Some employees are not interested for sharing their experience.


 There is a big internet connection problem or network problem, especially in the first two
weeks I started my practical attachment.

The possible solution I suggested for such problems are the following.

 It should full fill all the necessary materials which are technologically improved to
facilitate its service
 To solve the problem a lack of data about historical back ground of the organization, I
gather some information from head office and try to document with the help of my
supervisor.
 It should have to arrange its document in proper manner.
 It should have increased its customer through promotion and customer attractive
activity.

CHAPTER FOUR
INTERNSHIP EVALUATION

4.1 PRACTICAL SKILL

I have developed a confidence to do the given work practically without any problem and I also
observed that practical works is more simple than theoretical. As I have seen there is a big
difference between theoretical and practical skills.

It’s important to realize that in the work place, what matters is not the amount of practical
experience or theoretical back ground that an individual has, what matters is how much an
individual is able to effectively deal with the realities around him/her.

Gaining knowledge from practical work is easier than from theoretical learning process and I
have gained a practical skill of different kind of soft wares when I design and write my project
and report.

Rationales of the practical attachment are the practical reason to decide how to act on the
attachments some of the following listed is reason of practical attachment.

- It is for the case that the apprentice to realize the theory in class to real world through practice.

- It is for that the apprentice should compare and contrast the economic thought with practical
work.

- It is that how the problem is identified and the solution is found.

- It is for that the apprentice to check the relation he/she has with others in work place and etc.

4.2 Significance of practical attachment

Since the main objective of this practical attachment course is producing qualified, confident
and competent students, it has the following major significances.

Benefiting students, by improving their skill and knowledge, increasing problem solving
capacity, changing attitude and for preparing graduation paper.

It will minimize training cost incurred by employers.

Benefiting university in such a way that can produce well trend man power, gathering
information for problem solving researches.

Applicability of the theories and other in class on the real world or


practical work environment

Applicability of theories in practical work environment is very interesting and important. In


economics field there are many theories that applied on real world. Some theories which are
applicable when I conduct this practical attachment are the following.

The main activity of bank is accepting, depositing and lending money to its customers which
really related to banking and insurance course.

The theories of microeconomics for showing how to maximize profit and creating customer
satisfaction.

The theories of principle accounting used to prepare workers payroll.

The theories of introduction to management for showing to control all activity of the
organization .

From basic writing skill course point of view we can get how to write report correctly and
fluently.

Inter personal communication skill

During these month, I have been able to upgrade my communication skill to a whole new level
and gained confidence on how to ask different questions, to make discussion and decide.

Use of interpersonal communication,

 To influence the attitude and behaviors

 To form contracts and maintain relationship

 To express personal needs and understand the needs of others

 To make decision and solve problem

 To anticipate and predict behavior

I have developed the communicating respect for other people or professionals which will enable
us to reduce conflict and increase participation or assistance in obtaining information or
completing tasks.

I have developed how to control the feeling that emerge in difficult situations and respond
appropriately; instead of being over whelmed by emotion.

Team playing skill

During the time of my internship, I have learned that, it is difficult to go ahead and do
something without having a strong team. Team work important because it can speed up process
and make things run more efficiently and allows goals to be reached in an efficient and timely
method. A good team will generate and nurture (develop) bond of trust and confidence, both in
themselves and one another. This will positively affect their self-esteem, confidence in their
colleagues, and possibly their loyalty to the company increasing productivity and ultimately,
company profit.

Leadership skills

At the time of practice in Awash Bank organization, I have been able to upgrade my leadership
skills to a whole new level. To achieve leadership skills, it requires high level commitment to
learn from each experience we face. I have observed that a good leader is well principal
individual who focuses on a common goal and eliminate excess fear and doubt from his
employees and work for a common good of all.

Work ethics

 I have developed how to respect time


 I have developed how to accommodate customer.
 I have developed about moral duties and obligations.

 I have developed sincerity, respect for the job, regularity, punctuality, seriousness.

 I have developed how to keep certain information confidential, how to maintaining


cordial relation with the clients and agencies that a company has and how to being
prepared to take up new tasks.

 I understood the effects of ethical problem related to work like impolite behavior,
lack of punctuality, disregard of rules and procedures and disrespect for the job. I see how
to decline the ethical problems on the productivity of the organization.

Entrepreneur skills

Application of energy and passion towards the creation and implementation of new ideas and
creative solutions. Essential ingredients includes; the willingness to take calculated risks in
terms of time, equity, or career, the ability to formulate an effective venture team; the creative
skill of building business plan and lending money for customer and finally, the vision to
recognize opportunity where others see chaos, contradiction and confusion.

There are some of the entrepreneur skills that I have developed:

Initiative: -how to have the motivation to take the initiative and creative.

Responsibility: -I developed how to be responsible for my actions and understand the


important of responsibility.

Creativity: -I developed a sense of creativity, innovation and visibility.

Communication: -I developed the ability to communicate my ideas network and connect


with others.

Leadership: -I developed the ability to develop the leader ship and be in charge of a
project, or company.

Problem solving: -I developed the ability to solve simple or complicated problems.

5.1. Conclusion and recommendation

5.1.1 Conclusion
Generally from this internship I have gained everlasting experiences and skills. I apply more than
half of what learned within this years of my university stay.as I try to mention in the earlier
chapters, internship is probably one of the best ways to provide the students and graduates with
the practical exposure so that I get an opportunity to understand the working culture, systems,
structure, strategy, operation and methodologies that are carry out in different departments in an
organization. Internships also help one to test their skills, competencies along with helping them
to identify the knowledge gap between the theoretical principles and the practical work setting. It
can said that it provides students and graduates a platform to know how an organization actually
work in the real life setting with the help of personal interaction.

5.1.2 Recommendations
While doing my practical attachment, I observe some issues in the organization. Therefore, I
would like to suggest on some issues that I observed during accomplish my practical attachment
in at Awash bank of Adea Berga branch.

The following are the possible recommendations for the advancement of the bank:

 The Bank have to ask concerned body to get enough networks that help to provide proper
service for customer.

 The inefficiency of material like Chair, Table can be solved by increasing the availability
of such materials on department.

 Good initiation and capacity building for employees

 The organization should have well-organized and structured data

 Each employee should be responsible for their activities to achieve objectives of the
organization.

 The organization should develop transparency among employee

 Hard working culture should be developed in the organization to come up with the
realization of its visions and objectives.

 In order to reduce problems that arise with practical attachment program and to ensure its
mission, universities should develop a system of direct relation with host organization.

Finally, I would like to suggest to Awash Bank of Adea Berga branch have to work properly to
achieve their goals and also to address other problems by working in cooperation with other
