CLEAN POWER ENGINES

Introducing the latest innovations to the Cat ® truck engine lineup. Clean Power Engines incorporate the latest in
fuel injection, combustion, electronics and air system strategies. As a result, Clean Power Engines deliver emissions
levels that are significantly lower than the current EPA requirements.

Moreover, Clean Power Engines meet the lower emissions standards without a sacrifice in performance, fuel econo-
my, driveability or serviceability. And Clean Power Engines operate on today’s fuel blends, as well as the ultra-clean
fuel blends available in California and other areas of the country, while sporting the same tough, road-proven engine
iron and design that Caterpillar customers expect.

A full range of ratings are available: from 175 hp to 330 hp for mid-range, and from 355 hp to 600 hp for heavy duty.
All are certified for both EPA and CARB requirements. Three mid-range ratings — 207 hp, 216 hp and 230 hp — are
also certified to meet the stricter Lower Emission Vehicle Standards required for participation in the Clean Fuel Fleet
Vehicle Program being implemented in designated non-attainment areas across the U.S.

CLEAN POWER ENGINE EMISSIONS

• Engine emissions lower than current requirements Mid-Range Emissions: 3126E

• No ultra-low sulfur or other special fuels needed Up to a 12% reduction in NOx

• No special order hassles or chassis issues Heavy Duty Emissions: C-10, C-12, C-15, C-16
• Time-tested Cat durability, reliability and economy Up to an 8% reduction in NOx

3126E LOW EMISSION VEHICLE (LEV) ENGINE

With its reduced emissions levels, the 3126E LEV continues the tradition of Caterpillar’s advanced research and
engineering prowess. The 3126E LEV was specifically built in response to the more stringent emissions standards
set for non-attainment areas by the EPA.
Designed to meet EPA CFFV program requirements, the 3126E LEV engine is ideally suited for customers operating
trucks and buses in non-attainment areas, or for anyone who wants to operate a more environmentally-friendly
business. In fact, the 3126E LEV engine is certified for use in all 50 states with power ratings ranging from
207 hp to 230 hp.

DUAL-FUEL ENGINES: 3126B, C-10, C-12

Cat Dual-Fuel engines operate on compressed natural gas or liquid natural gas. The electronically-controlled,
multi-point, sequential port injected natural gas fuel system technology allows integration with the standard
fuel injection system to provide dual-fuel capability.
Programmed to meet current EPA and CARB low emissions standards while optimizing fuel economy, the Cat
Dual-Fuel engine lineup offers operating characteristics similar to traditional Cat truck engines. In typical
applications, up to 85% of total fuel use will be either LNG or CNG.

Introducing ACERT ™ — Advanced Combustion Emissions Reduction Technology. This revolutionary new technology
reduces emissions where they’re created — in the combustion chamber. ACERT utilizes Caterpillar’s HEUI (Hydraulically-
actuated, Electronically-controlled Unit Injector) fuel system integrated with the latest in Cat electronics and air systems
to provide a more effective, long-term solution to emissions control for mid-range and heavy duty engines.

A C E R T F E AT U R E S
ACERT, in conjunction with HEUI and Cat electronics, offers the following:

• Less Installation Complexity

No need to cool hot exhaust gases in order to reintroduce them into the engine’s
3126E
intake system; this results in less refit and less cost added to the initial truck
price.

• Enhanced Reliability and Durability

A completely new engine system is not required. Cat’s proven HEUI fuel system,
integrated with Cat electronics and ACERT, precisely controls fuel injection,
which results in lower emissions without requiring any other new components to
be added to the engine.

• Optimized Operating Costs and Resale Value

C-10
Emissions are controlled through improved engine performance, allowing for
fewer service instances and optimal resale value at trade-in time.

C-12 ACERT EMISSIONS FACTS:

• Will meet current and near-term emissions
requirements
• Will be a significant building block toward meeting
the proposed 2007 EPA regulations

CATERPILLAR LEADS THE WAY WITH

ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGY AND INITIATIVES

THAT KEEP EMISSIONS DOWN AND PROFITS UP.

Caterpillar’s Clean Power Engines are just the latest examples of how
Caterpillar leads the way in responsible research and engineering. In
fact, Cat spends more than $3 million each working day on company-
wide technology to produce products that provide environmentally
friendly and clean-burning power, while still delivering outstanding fuel
economy and driver-pleasing performance at low operating costs.

But we don’t stop there. As the technology leader, we’re constantly

thinking “outside the box” to do everything possible to help you get your
job done in an efficient and profitable—as well as environmentally
responsible—manner.

SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT WITH THE DIESEL

TECHNOLOGY FORUM
Within the industry, it’s well known that today’s diesels are cleaner,
more powerful, more efficient and more durable than ever before. But
public perception can be much different.

That’s why Caterpillar, along with several industry partners, has taken
the initiative to create the Diesel Technology Forum. Its mission is to
represent the industry in the diesel debate with a unified voice and a
focused message. The forum also has a mandate to educate the public
on the significance of today’s low-emission diesel-powered products
with facts based on sound science.

The forum has already raised awareness nationwide with a campaign

designed to communicate the environmental friendliness and econom-
ic benefits of diesel engines.

WORKING WITH INDUSTRY LEADERS TO DEVELOP

LOWER-EMISSION PRODUCTS
As emissions standards continue to grow more stringent over time,
Caterpillar will respond with the research and development required to
meet them. For example, Caterpillar truck engines are compatible with
Bio-fuels (fuels meeting Caterpillar Bio-fuel specifications or either
ASTM PS121 or DIN 51606). In addition, a current program with the
Lubrizol Corporation is focused on the development and testing of a
new low-emission fuel emulsion.

These examples are some of the many ways in which Cat is leading the
way toward a better tomorrow by committing time and resources today.
