Participation:
Consider the list of main characters given below and write a character sketch for one of them, discussing their
character traits and the impact they have on the story being told:
Little Toomai: The protagonist and a young Indian boy who dreams of being accepted as a "mahout," an
elephant handler. He is determined to witness the dance of the elephants and prove his courage.
Kala Nag: Kala Nag is the lead elephant and plays a significant role in the story. He is revered and considered
sacred, and Toomai's desire to see the elephant dance revolves around Kala Nag.
Petersen Sahib: The British officer in charge of the elephant camp. He is respectful of the traditions and
beliefs surrounding the elephants and recognizes Toomai's bravery.
The Elephants: While not characters in the traditional sense, the elephants, especially Kala Nag, hold a
significant presence and are central to the storyline. They represent wisdom, power, and spirituality.
Word Limit: 100 to 120 words
Assessment Opportunities: Post Assessment- The students will share their opinion about the character
description using One Word Strategy.

Participation: Imagine that you have to write a report on fables as a means to increase their
readership in your local community. Write this report and base paragraphs on the following
points:
1. What are fables?
2. What is the main purpose of fables?
3. To increase interest in fables, choose to write:
o Either a summary of a famous fable
o Or the biography of a famous fable writer
Word Limit: 150 to 200 words
Summary: Peer Review (AFL): Students can swap their report with a partner and review each
other's work through one star one wish.
Assessment Opportunities: Post Assessment The students will share their opinion about each
others writing using Response Cards of red, green and yellow color.
