BULDA. Once upon a time in the kingdom of Arendelle, there lived two princesses…
Enter ANNA and ELSA.
ANNA. Come on, Elsa, do the magic!
ELSA. Are you ready? Watch this!
Enter OLAF.
OLAF. Hi, I’m Olaf and I like warm hugs!
ANNA. I love you, Olaf! (Olaf squeezes tighter) Ouch! Olaf, you’re hurting me! Elsa,
make it stop!
ELSA. Olaf, stop! Stop! (She throws out her hand. There is a flash of light. Both Anna and
Olaf fall to the ground as though dead.) Anna? Anna!
Enter the KING and QUEEN.
KING. Elsa!
QUEEN. What have you done?
ELSA. I… I…
KING. (To Bulda) Bulda! Please help!
Bulda examines Anna.
BULDA. She’ll be alright. It almost went straight to her heart.
QUEEN. Can you help her?
BULDA. I will remove all memories of Elsa’s magic. But I’ll leave the fun.
ELSA. She won’t remember I have powers?
BULDA. It’s for the best. Your power will only grow. There is beauty in it but also
great danger. You must learn to control it. Fear will be your enemy.
KING. She can learn to control it. Until then, we’ll keep her hidden away from
everyone, including Anna.
He leads Elsa offstage.
Bulda withdraws as Anna slowly wakes up.
ANNA. Elsa? Do you want to build a snowman? … Elsa? Mama, where’s Elsa?
QUEEN. I’m sorry, Anna. Elsa cannot play with you anymore…

Exit Bulda.
Enter ANNA and ELSA.
ANNA. (Touching her shoulder) Elsa?
ELSA. No! Don’t touch me! Please… I don’t want to hurt you.
Exit Elsa, leaving Anna alone.
Enter HANS.
HANS. Is that the new queen of Arendelle?
ANNA. Yes, Elsa is now the queen of… (turning round) HI!
HANS. The queen of Hi?
ANNA. Harendelle, I mean Arendelle. (Blushing) I’m Anna. Princess Anna. It’s a
pleasure to meet you.
HANS. My lady, the pleasure is all mine. I am Prince Hans of the Southern Isles…
ANNA. A prince! So… so you’ll be a king one day!
HANS. Haha, not very likely. I have twelve older brothers, and most of them act as
though I’m invisible, so who knows if I’ll ever be king.
ANNA. They act as though you’re invisible?
HANS. (Shrugs sadly) It’s what brothers do.
ANNA. …And sisters. You know, Elsa and I were really close when I was little. But
then one day she just shut me out and… I never knew why.
HANS. Maybe she was afraid. That’s why we have doors, you know. They make us feel
safe. They protect us from danger.
ANNA. Does she think I’m dangerous?
HANS. Maybe she’s the one who’s dangerous. Maybe she’s trying to protect you from
herself. That’s why she shut the door on you.
ANNA. You’re so insightful.
HANS. I know I’ve only just met you, Princess Anna, but I feel like I’ve known you all
my life. I know your pain. And I just want you to know… my door will always be open for you.
ANNA. I’ve… nobody has ever said that to me before. Hans, I… I know we’ve just met
but… I feel like I’m in love with you. Is that a crazy thing to say?
HANS. The only thing crazier is that… well… I was about to say the same thing.
ANNA. Is this what they call love at first sight?
HANS. True love. Princess Anna… I know this is sudden, but… will you marry me?

ELSA. (Chuckling) Thank you.
ANNA. Erm… may I present Prince Hans of the Southern Isles?
HANS. Your majesty, we would like…
ANNA. (Talking at the same time) We would like…
HANS and ANNA. (Giggling as they finish each other’s sentences) …your blessing of
marriage.
ELSA. Marriage! Anna, you can’t marry a man you just met!
ANNA. You can if it’s true love!
ELSA. And what do you know about true love?
ANNA. More than you! All you know is how to shut people out.
ELSA. You asked for my blessing, but my answer is no.
ANNA. What did I ever do to you?
ELSA. Enough, Anna!
ANNA. No! Why? Why do you shut me out? Why do you shut the world out? What
are you so afraid of?
ELSA. I said ENOUGH!
We could probably have the stage lights change to blue when she says this.
KRISTOFF. (Impressed) Whoa! She just froze the whole palace!
INGRID. Sorcery!
HERALD and PARTY GUEST. (Running screaming offstage) SHE’S A MONSTER!!!
Elsa panics and runs offstage.
ANNA. Elsa! (To the party guests) My sister is not a monster! Tonight is my fault! I
pushed her, so I’m the one who needs to go after her.
HANS. I’m coming with you.
ANNA. No. I need you here to take care of Arendelle. (To the party guests) I leave Prince
Hans in charge!
HANS. Are you sure you can trust her? I don’t want you getting hurt.
ANNA. She’s my sister. She would never hurt me.
KRISTOFF. Your majesty, the North Mountain is dangerous. I can be your guide.
ANNA. Oh, you’re… Christopher, was it?
KRISTOFF. It’s Kristoff.
ANNA. That’s right! You’re the one who always brings ice to the palace. Hehe. Ice. Th-
thank you, Kristoff. (To Hans) I’ll be back before you know it, my love!

HANS. Be safe, my lady. (Exit Anna and Kristoff.) Ingrid, go after the Princess. And
should you encounter the queen, you are to put an end to this winter…
INGRID. Yes, Prince Hans.
They exit.
Enter ANNA and KRISTOFF.
ANNA. Elsa? Elsa! I’m sorry, Elsa! I didn’t mean to make you freeze the summer!
KRISTOFF. So… what happened exactly?
ANNA. Oh, it was all my fault. I got engaged, but then she freaked out because I’d only

KRISTOFF. And I’m disturbed. Very, very disturbed by what I’m seeing.
OLAF. Well, it’s ‘ice’ to meet you too, Disturbed! Get it? ‘Ice’ to meet you? Haha!
ANNA. Olaf! You were created by my sister, weren’t you?
OLAF. Oh yeah! Do you want to meet her? She’s just in that giant castle made of ice
over there! Hey Elsa! I made some friends! Maybe they can be your friends too!
Enter ELSA.
ELSA. Anna? Kristoff?
ANNA. Elsa! You look amazing! And this place is beautiful!
ELSA. Thank you. I never knew what I was capable of.
ANNA. I’m so sorry about what happened. If I had known…
ELSA. No, it’s okay. You don’t have to apologise. But you should probably go. You
belong in Arendelle.
ANNA. So do you.
ELSA. No, Anna, I belong here, alone… where I can be who I am without hurting
anyone.

 ANNA. Elsa you have to come back! Arendelle is in trouble. You set off an eternal
winter…
ELSA. An eternal winter!
ANNA. But it’s okay. You can just unfreeze it, can’t you?
ELSA. No, I can’t!
ANNA. Sure you can! I know you can! You don’t have to be afraid…
ELSA. There’s so much fear!
ANNA. Don’t panic!
ELSA. You’re not safe here!
ANNA. We can face this thing together… like we used to!
ELSA. I CAN’T!
The lights flash as Anna falls to the ground again.
KRISTOFF. Anna! Are you okay? We should probably go.
ANNA. I’m not leaving without you, Elsa!
ELSA. Yes, you are!
Enter the ICE MONSTER who chases Anna, Kristoff and Olaf offstage.
Meanwhile INGRID enters unseen.
Sneaking up behind Elsa, she knocks her out,
puts handcuffs on her, and escorts her offstage.
Re-enter ANNA, KRISTOFF and OLAF.
OLAF. Whoa, that was close! We almost got mashed by that giant marshmallow!
(Waving offstage) Bye, Marshmallow! I love you!
KRISTOFF. Never mind the monster. What’s happening to your hair? It’s turning
white! It’s because she struck you, isn’t it?
ANNA. (Weakly) It’s… what…? Does it look bad?
KRISTOFF. No… but we need to get you help. (Calling) Bulda! Bulda! Are you there?
We need your help!
Enter BULDA.
BULDA. Kristoff? Oooooh, and who’s this lovely young lady?
KRISTOFF. No, it’s not like that…
BULDA. I’ve always dreamed of the day you would bring a beautiful girl home with
you, but never thought it would be the princess herself! So when is the wedding?
OLAF. Anna! I had no idea you and Disturbed were in love!
KRISTOFF. My name is Kristoff!
ANNA. No, no, Olaf, it’s not like that… you see I’m… I’m…
She suddenly grows weak and falls back into Kristoff’s arms.
KRISTOFF. She’s as cold as ice!

 BULDA. Anna, your life is in danger. There is ice in your heart, put there by your
sister. If not removed, you will freeze to solid ice… forever.
KRISTOFF. But you can remove it, right?
BULDA. I’m sorry, Kristoff. If it was her head that would be easy, but only an act of
true love can thaw a frozen heart.
ANNA. An act of true love? A true love’s kiss perhaps?
KRISTOFF. We have to get you back to Hans.
OLAF. I’m coming too!
KRISTOFF. Fine, but stay out of sight! No telling what they’ll do to a talking
snowman!
They exit.
BULDA. Meanwhile… Elsa awoke to find herself a prisoner in her own palace…
Enter ELSA, HANS and INGRID.
A fire burns in a hearth.
ELSA. Why did you bring me here?
HANS. I couldn’t just let them kill you.
ELSA. But I’m a danger to Arendelle. Get Anna.
HANS. Anna has not returned. If you would just stop the winter, bring back summer…
please…
ELSA. Don’t you see? I can’t. You have to tell them to let me go.
HANS. I will do what I can.
Ingrid leads Elsa offstage.
Enter ANNA and KRISTOFF.
HANS. Anna! You’re so cold…
KRISTOFF. Put her close to the fire. Get her warm as soon as possible.

 HANS. Twelve older brothers… I had no chance of being king. I knew I would have to
marry into the throne somewhere, and you were so desperate for love, you were willing to
marry me just like that! I figured, after we married, I would stage a little accident for Elsa…
ANNA. Hans, no…
HANS. …but then she doomed herself, and you were stupid enough to go after her.
ANNA. Please…
HANS. All that’s left is to kill Elsa and bring back summer.
Enter INGRID.
INGRID. Prince Hans! The queen… she’s escaped!
HANS. What? Go look for her at once!
Exit Ingrid.
ANNA. You’re no match for Elsa!
HANS. No, you’re no match for Elsa. In a few moment you’ll be dead. I on the other
hand, will be the hero who is going to save Arendelle from destruction.
Exit Hans.
ANNA. (Weakly) No… h-help…! A… anyone…
Enter OLAF.
OLAF. Anna! Oh no.
He pushes her close to the fireplace.
ANNA. Olaf? Olaf, get away from there!
OLAF. Where is Hans? What happened to your kiss?
ANNA. I was wrong about him. It wasn’t true love. Please, Olaf, you can’t stay here.

OLAF. I am not leaving here until we find some other act of true love to save you.
ANNA. I don’t know what love is.
OLAF. That’s okay, I do. Love is putting someone else’s needs before your own. Like
how Kristoff took you to the North Mountain and back again.
ANNA. Kristoff… loves me? Olaf, you’re melting!
OLAF. Some people are worth melting for.
ANNA. Help me up, Olaf… we have to find Kristoff!
OLAF. No no! You have to stay by the fire and keep warm!
ANNA. I need to get to Kristoff!
Exit Anna and Olaf.
Enter KRISTOFF.
Bulda comes forward.
BULDA. What’s wrong, Kristoff?
KRISTOFF. It doesn’t feel right leaving Anna… I can’t help feeling… she’s in trouble…

Enter ELSA.

She buckles under the strain.
Enter ANNA and OLAF.
They do not see Elsa.
ANNA. Kristoff! Kristoff!
OLAF. It’s so windy! And snowy! Anna, we have to get you inside where it’s warm!
Anna falls weakly to the ground.
Enter HANS.
He doesn’t see Anna or Olaf.
ELSA. Prince Hans! Where is Anna?
HANS. Your sister returned from the mountain weak and cold. She said that you froze
her heart.
ELSA. No…
HANS. I tried to save her, but it was too late. Her skin was ice, her hair turned white.

She falls to her knees in grief.
Hans draws a sword.
Enter KRISTOFF.
KRISTOFF. Anna!
ANNA. Kristoff? (She starts towards him, but then sees Hans about to kill Elsa with his sword.)
Elsa? (She changes direction and puts herself between Hans and Elsa) No!
She turns to ice.
ELSA. Anna! Oh, Anna. No… no… please, no. (After a long moment, Anna comes back to
life) Anna?
ANNA. (Hugging her) Oh, Elsa…
ELSA. You sacrificed yourself for me?
ANNA. You’re my sister. I love you.
OLAF. (Realising what has happened) An act of true love will thaw a frozen heart!
ELSA. You… you love me… (The snow storm quietly fades) Yes… of course…
Enter INGRID.

 She rushes over to help Hans to his feet.
INGRID. My lord!
HANS. (To Anna) Anna? But… she froze your heart!
ANNA. The only frozen heart around here is yours.
She punches him.
Ingrid immediately draws her sword.
Elsa freezes the blade in the scabbard.
ELSA. Go back to the Southern Isles. Do not return to Arendelle ever again.
HANS. Let’s go, Ingrid.
They exit.
KRISTOFF. Anna? (She turns to him. He grows suddenly bashful.) I… I…
ANNA. Is there something you want to say to me?
KRISTOFF. I… I…

the long journey from the mountain to the palace with only the prayer that some sudden dawn

send my heart careening against my rib cage… I… I… I’ll just stop talking now.
ANNA. Don’t stop. Never stop.
KRISTOFF. Princess Anna… I love you.
She throws her arms around him.
OLAF. Oh, I do love a happy ending!
Enter BULDA, addressing the audience.
BULDA. There is no fear in love. Indeed, true love casts out fear. So it has been
written in the history of Arendelle, and may it be truly said for all of us.
