Subject Title : Tomorrow’s Leaders

Lecture One : Introduction

Rationale

To nurture the leadership potential of young people and expand their global outlook in a holistic
manner, this course is designed to enable students to learn theories, research, and concepts of
intrapersonal and interpersonal qualities of effective leaders. This course offers students an
interactive and active learning experience. Students are expected to learn and to apply effective
leadership skills through participation in a variety of reflective and interactive activities. Through
this learning process, students will have an opportunity to re-think their own beliefs about the
concept of “effective leadership” and to apply their learning in both their own professions and real-
life situations. In this lecture, an overview of the personal attributes of effective leaders and
employability skills in a service-based economy (i.e., self-understanding) will be discussed. Also,
this lecture is intended to increase students’ self-awareness and understanding of their leadership
potential.

The objectives of this lecture are:

1. To introduce the unique features and the outline of the course


2. To overview personal attributes of effective leaders and their importance for university
graduates in a service economy

3. To help students understand basic concepts and theories related to leadership and
employability skills
4. To enhance students’ self-awareness and self-understanding abilities

Upon completion of the lecture, students will be able:

1. To understand the features and the outlines of the course


2. To summarize important personal attributes of effective leaders
3. To integrate knowledge about leadership and employability skills into their professions
4. To practice self-reflection skills to reflect on their personal development
