Course Description
This course will examine the area of wireless networking and mobile computing, looking at the unique
network protocol challenges and opportunities presented by wireless communications and host or router
mobility. The course will give a brief overview of fundamental concepts in mobile wireless systems and
mobile computing, it will then cover John. Wiley & Sons – Handbook of Wireless Networks and Mobile
Computing.
system and standards issues including wireless LANs, Cellular Networks, mobile IP, ad-hoc networks,
sensor networks, as well as issues associated with small hand held portable devices and new applications
that can exploit mobility and location information.

Objectives
The objective of this module is:
 To provide an overview of Wireless Communication networks area and its applications in
communication engineering.
 To appreciate the contribution of Wireless Communication networks to overall technological
growth.
 To explain the various terminology, principles, devices, schemes, concepts, algorithms and different
methodologies used in Wireless Communication Networks. To enable students to compare and
contrast multiple division techniques, mobile communication systems, and existing wireless
network
 To provide an overview on Trends, issues and challenges on Mobile computing
