STATE NURSING COUNCIL
Structure of state nursing council:
Each state determines the specific administrative responsibility and oversight to the
council of nursing.
1.The governor to the state
2.The state health director
3.Nursing director
4.Another state official or organization
The salient features:
The provision of an autonomous body ,comprising majority of nurses,
endowed with decision making powers.
Compulsory registration for all nurses, midwives practicing with in the state
Provision of nurses ,midwives and public health nurses to elect their own
responsibilities to the respective state
Powers to regulate nursing education prescribe curriculum and enunciate
examination polices
Provision to have a nurse register to carry out the functions to snc
Provision for recognition of educational institutions of nursing and
withdrawal of such recognition if necessary.
Nursing examination board
Role and responsibility:
Enforcing the nurse practice act and nurse licensure.
Accrediting or approving nurse education programs in schools and
universities.
Responsible to maintain the register in prescribed manner for nurses and
midwives and health visitors is called Indian nurse register
Developing polices, practice standards and administrative regulation.
This is a brief description about SNC before going to field visit the students
must have a knowledge regarding SNC. This is very helpful for the students for
easy understanding about APNMC, Vijayawada field visit.

State nursing council(SNC)
The state nurses and midwives council was established in 1948 under the
provisions of nurses and midwives act with the purpose of better training of
nurses ,midwives and health visitors.
It works as an autonomous body under the government of respective states,
department of health and family welfare. As a part of our MSc nursing 1 year
nursing education activities we all visited APNMC (SNC)at Hanuman pet,
Vijayawada, on 10\3\2020.
Objectives: Through this visit we are able to know
Know about state nursing council.
What is the physical set up of APNMC
Discuss about the programmers run by the APNMC
To gain knowledge about registration process, renewal and recognition
process.
What are the purposes of SNC:
1.Issus licenses to the qualified nursing
2.To implement the rules and regulations formed by the INC.
3.Inspection of various colleges and schools of nursing etc….
4.Renuval of certificate
5.Arrangement and implement various programmers like, in-service
education programs, inspector training programmers etc.
6.Giving recognition to all colleges or schools are conducted workshops and
conferences
7.sanctioning recognition to start new colleges or schools etc…
8.Recognition of nursing institutions with in the state.
Explain about physical setup of APNMC at Vijayawada
1.Located at Hanuman pet, Vijayawada.
2.There are various sections for different codes of nurses
1.ANM registration section
2.GNM registration section
3.Bsc Nursing registration section.
4.Msc Nursing registration section.
3.There is a provision for conference hall to conduct in-service education
programmers.
There is a provision for separate sections for registration of certificates,
Renewal of certificates.
In APNMC building there are separate rooms for registration APNMC and
faculty
Arrangement of inspecting to give recognition for the nursing institutions.
What are the actives going on in APNMC ,Vijayawada
1.Certificate registration
2.Certificate renewal process
3.Arrangement of inspectors to inspect the schools or colleges to find out whether
they are maintaining INC\SNC norms.
4.Arrange inspectors to inspect and giving permissions to start new colleges\
schools of nursing
5.Arrangement of external examiners to conduct examinations for nurses.
How this field visit is helpful foe the MSc nursing students?
1.Through this visit the students are able to know about state nursing council
infrastructure and activities\functions of SNC
The students able to know clarity about certificates registration process.
The students can understand about the issuing of certificates (RM and RN)by the
register
The students will come to know the on going actives performed by the APNMC.
The students can gain knowledge regarding inspection process and can able to
know about inspection proforma land down by the SNC.
The students will come to understand that how to start new college of nursing or
school of nursing or ANM school\MPHW school.
The students gain knowledge regarding various nursing sections and what are the
activities \functions performed in different sections .
The student can able to understand about register APNMC functions or roles and
responsibilities through this visit.
Conclusion: The field visit very much helpful for the MSc nursing students to
gain enough knowledge about SNC norms, rules and regulations ,registration
process, recognition process, renewal process, inspection process , examination
process, ongoing activities in APNMC etc.…
