Practice Problem 2 v 2024

The document presents practice problems related to fluid dynamics, specifically focusing on the changes in water depth in tanks due to varying discharge rates. It includes a problem involving a tank with a cross-sectional area and a dynamic model derivation for the change in depth over time. Additionally, it addresses the flow from a conical tank, requiring the derivation of a relationship between height and time, as well as calculating the time taken for 75% of the water to flow out.

Practice Problems-2

1)A tank has a cross-sectional area of 1m2 and normal discharge of 20m3/hr . How does the
depth change with time if the flow to the tank is suddenly increased to 25 m3/hr. F2 is related
to h by F2= 10*h0.5. Derive the dynamic model of the system

Ans:

(25 − 10√ℎ)
𝑡 = 2 × [10(√ℎ𝑜 − √ℎ)] − 50 × [𝑙𝑛 ]
(25 − 10√ℎ𝑜 )

2) Water flows from a conical tank at a rate of 0.02(2+h)2 m3/min. The diameter and height of
the conical tank is 6m and 5m respectively. If the tank is initially full a) Derive a relationship
between height and time. b) how long will it take for 75% of water to flow out of the tank.
