main scale are equal in length to 20 divisions of the vernier scale. In measuring the
diameter of the cylinder, the main scale showed 30 divisions and the 4th division of
the vernier scale coincides with ta main scale. Find the radius of the cylinder.
4. Find the volume of an iceberg that floats with a volume of 600 cm3 above the sea
water whose density is 1.025 g/cm3 and that of ice is 0.98 g/cm3
5. Explain about the two-way flow of electric current.
6. A pendulum completes 3 oscillations in 6s. Find:
a. What is the time taken?
b. If g = 9.8 m/s2, find the length.

III. LONG ANSWERS: (3M X 8Q = 24M)
1. A car travels with a uniform velocity of 20 m/s for 4s. The brakes are then applied for
uniform retardation and the car comes to a rest after 10 s. Find (i) the distance which
they travel before the brakes were applied, (ii) the retardation; (iii) the distance
travelled by the car after applying the brakes.
2. Based on the velocity-time graph given, answer the following:

a. State the nature of motion of the particle.


b. Find the displacement of the particle in t=4s
c. Find the acceleration and the retardation.
3. What is atmospheric pressure? What is a barometer and altimeter? State their
functions and uses.
4. State Pascal’s law and the principle of the hydraulic machine with an equation and
diagram.
5. What is the greenhouse effect? Give any ways to minimise global warming.
6. Explain how the laws of thermodynamics are applied in the energy flow of the
ecosystem.
7. Explain the mechanism of the school bell with a neat diagram. How is the working of
an electric bell affected, if alternating current is used instead of direct current?

1. A ball is thrown vertically upwards from the top of the tower with a velocity of 15.5
m/s. The ball reaches the ground after 3s. Calculate the:

b. Velocity of the ball reaching the ground if g = 9.8 m/s2
c. What is free–fall?
2. Consider two conductors where A possesses Q = - 8 C and potential = 2 V and B
possesses Q = 4 C and potential = 4 V. When connected with a metallic wire, state the
direction of (a) Flow of electrons; (b) flow of current; (d) Potentials difference
between them and the work done, if overall charge shows 4 C; (e) Total current flow
if the time taken is 20 s; and (f) the resistance of the conductor.

3. (i) A box of the length of 2 cm is kept at a distance of 10 cm in front of the concave


mirror which is at the focus. If the magnification is twice, find the length of the
image.

(ii) A boy stands 4 m away from the plane mirror. If the boy moves ½ m towards the
mirror, what is the distance between the boy and his new image?

4. A. Explain Archimede’s principle and its application.


B. A body of mass 7 kg displaces 2100 cm3 of water when it is fully immersed inside
the water. Calculate:
i. volume of the body
ii. upthrust on body
iii. apparent weight of the body in the water.
5. Ripples are generated by the vibratory on the water surface which covers a distance of
60 m within 2 s. The distance between the two crests was estimated as 2 m. Calculate
A. Frequency
B. Wave Velocity
C. Speed of the wave in terms of distance
D. State two properties of the medium for the propagation of sound.
