 7  m

 A = 38.5 m 2

Hence, the surface area of the sphere is 38.5 m 2 .

 22 
3. Find the total surface area of a hemisphere of radius 10 cm .  Assume  =
 7 

Ans:

Given the radius of hemisphere r = 10 cm

The total surface area of the hemisphere is the sum of its curved surface area and the circular

Total surface area of hemisphere A = 2  r 2 +  r 2

 A = 3  r2

 A = 3  3.14  (10 )  cm 2
2
 

 A = 942 cm2

Hence, the total surface area of the hemisphere is 942 cm2 .

4. The radius of a spherical balloon increases from 7 cm to 14 cm as air is being pumped
into it. Find the ratio of surface areas of the balloon in the two cases.

Ans: Given the initial radius of the balloon r1 = 10 cm

The final radius of the balloon r2 = 14 cm

We have to find the ratio of surface areas of the balloon in the two cases.

4  r12
The required ratio R =
4  r2 2

R=  1 
 r2 

2
7
R=  
 14 

Hence, the ratio of the surface areas of the balloon in both case is 1 : 4 .

5. A hemispherical bowl made of brass has inner diameter 10.5 cm . Find the cost of
tinplating it on the inside at the rate of Rs. 16 per 100 cm 2 .

10.5
Ans: Given the radius of inner hemispherical bowl r = = 5.25 cm

The surface area of the hemispherical bowl A = 2  r 2

 22 
 A = 2   ( 5.25)

 7  cm

 A = 173.25 cm2

It is given that the cost of tin-plating 100 cm 2 area = Rs. 16

 16 
So, the cost of tin-plating 173.25 cm 2 area = Rs.   173.25  = Rs. 27.72
 100 

Hence, the cost of tin-plating the hemispherical bowl is Rs. 27.72 .

6. Find the radius of a sphere whose surface area is 154 cm 2 .

7
 r =   cm
2

 r = 3.5 cm

Therefore, the radius of the sphere is 3.5 cm .
