Asignment - I

The document outlines an assignment for the EED2104 Transmission and Distribution course, detailing various problems related to electrical conductors, including calculations for geometric mean radius (GMR) and inductance for different configurations of conductors. It includes specific figures and parameters for stranded conductors, double circuit lines, and three-phase systems. The assignment is due on September 26, 2022.

Assignment - I
Submission date: 26.09.2022
1. A stranded conductor consists of seven identical strands each having a radius of ‘r’. Find
the geometric mean radius of the conductor and the ratio of GMR to overall conductor
radius. The cross section of the conductor with seven strands is shown in fig.1.

2. Find the inductance per phase per km of double circuit three phase line shown in fig. 2.
The conductors are transposed and are of radius 0.75 cm each. The phase sequence is
ABC.

3. Determine the inductance of the double circuit line as shown in fig. 3. The diameter is
2.1793 cm.

4. Find the GMR of a conductor in terms of the radius ‘r’ of an individual strand for the
given figure 4.

5. (a) A three phase transposed line composed of one ACSR, 636000 cmil, 54/7 rook
conductor per phase with flat horizontal spacing of 12 m between phases A and B and
between phases B and C. GMR is 1.0028 cm.
(b) The line is to be replaced by a three conductor bundle of ACSR 605000 cmil, 26/7
squab conductors having the same cross sectional area of aluminium as the single
conductor line. The conductors have a GMR of 0.9967 cm. The line will also have a flat
horizontal configuration, but it is to be operated at a higher voltage and therefore the

phase spacing is increased to 16.5 m as measured from the centre of the bundles. The
spacing between the conductors I the bundle is 45.72 cm. Determine the inductance per
phase per km of the above two lines.
(c) Determine the inductance per phase per km if the line is replaced by four conductor
bundle with GMR of 1.356 cm.
6. Determine the inductance of a three phase double circuit line having hexagonal spacing,
operating at 50 Hz and the outer distance between centre to centre conductors is 7 m
and GMR is 0.915 cm. The phase conductor consists of two bundle conductors with
bundle spacing 18 inche as shown in fig. 5.
