COMMUNITY ISSUE: IMPROPER WASTE DISPOSAL
Introduction
Improper waste disposal is the disposal of waste in a way that has negative consequences for
the environment. Improper disposal of solid wastes pollutes all the vital components of the living
environment (i.e.; air, land and water) at local and global levels. Example include pet waste, scattered
leaves, littering, hazardous waste that is dumped into the ground, and not recycling items that should be
recycled. When these wastes were disposed improperly, they become a significant source of pollution.
Improper waste disposal is one of the existing problems that the Philippines is facing right now
with difficulty as humans are the root of this problem. According to Khylle Tumala (January 2015) from
her study in the effects of improper waste disposal in the Philippines, “Improper waste disposal is
one of the biggest environmental issues here in the Philippines. It caused bigger problems that affect
not only the environment but also the health and life of the people.
This section will provide brief description on the various significance of the study given the
problems regarding improper waste disposal and related sites needed for the expected importance of
the individual’s as follow:
To the students. The proposed study will help the students to have an idea or promote an activity or
program in mitigating the proper waste disposal in the community.
To the constituents. The proposed study will help the constituents of the community to have a deeper
understanding on how to segregate their waste.
To the future researchers. The proposed study will benefits and help the future researchers as their
guide. The study can also open in development of this study.
Objectives:
The specific objectives of the project are to improve the barangay’s cleanliness and orderliness,
to raise ecological awareness among residents, to provide a compost pit, to improve proper waste
disposal and segregation as a key to preventing the problem of where to put their waste, to promote
cooperation among Barangay residents for community development improvement, and to teach
residents on how to recycle.

Conclusion
In summary, unauthorized trash disposal methods exist as a result of a lack of an effective waste
management process. Soil, water and air pollution can all be result of improper waste disposal and
occurs when either of them becomes contaminated with hazardous materials. This is not only
contributes to the greenhouse effect, but it also has a huge negative impact on marine and wildlife.
Apart from this improper waste disposal can also have negative health consequences for humans, as it
has been linked to a number of illness and even deaths over the years.
Recommendations
1. Residents should be encouraged to use proper primary disposal practices and support with
waste separation from the household level. In this way of the separated waste could be
reused.
2. We should promote and educate the people in our town or community about
environmental protection for future generations so that the community they will live in is
welcoming and have a healthy atmosphere.
3. The authorities should increase the knowledge and awareness of the issue surrounding
waste, which will support the waste management process. The community would use
proper waste management such as waste separation, recycling, reuse and waste reduction if
they are aware of its negative and positive impacts on health and environment.
