3 INSTALLATION DACS-W Operation Manual

3.2 Installation Location & Environment

The weigher installation site should conform to the following conditions:
• Indoors
• Ambient temperature range: 0-40 °C
• Ambient Humidity: 35-85% (no condensation)
• Installed on a hard horizontal surface with minimum vibration
• Sufficient area around weigher to perform maintenance
• No electrical interference from such devices as a wireless transmitter

3.3 Power Source Connection

All on-site electrical work should be performed by qualified electrical contractors.

• Do not connect power devices which may emit electrical interference, e.g. a
motor, to the same power line as the weigher.
• Voltages should not vary more than ±10% under load.

Two types of DACS-W electrical specifications are available: AC100V and AC200V.
Check the rating plate attached to the side of the RCU to confirm specification type.
Use a power outlet that conforms to the specified voltage.
Be sure that a ground wire is connected to the outlet. Power cables from the checkweigher should be
connected by an Ishida Service representative.

9.4.4 Replacing Battery for Memory Backup

This machine uses a lithium battery as a backup battery for saving preset settings.
However, when power is not supplied to the machine for an extended period of time, battery voltage can
weaken and preset settings can be lost. Although there is a machine function that detects low battery
voltage, should the battery reach the level where low battery voltage is detected, important preset settings
can be lost. We recommend periodic battery replacement to protect against the loss of preset settings.

• Contact your nearest Ishida representative or the Ishida Service Center for
replacing battery for memory backup.

Battery Voltage Check

This machine automatically checks battery voltage each time electricity is supplied. When the battery
is low while electricity is supplied, the message "undergoing preset data check"will appear. After data
check is completed, the following message will be displayed.

[Low Battery]
* Recharge
* Leave Connected Over 8 Hours.
* Press [EXIT] key.

Figure 9-12 Low Battery Voltage Screen

Consider the following two possibilities as a cause of low battery.

1. Battery voltage is low due to inactivity over an extended period of time.
In this case, recharge the battery for over 8 hours.
2. End of the battery life has been reached.
Contact your nearest Ishida representative or the Ishida Service Center for replacing battery for
memory backup.

Cause of Low Battery Voltage Message.

Use the following guidelines to determine the cause of the low battery voltage message.
1. After"battery low" is displayed, recharge the machine for over eight hours.
2. After recharging battery, turn OFF the machine.
3. Quickly turn ON the machine.
→ Should the low battery voltage message appear again, it can be assumed that the cause was due to
the end of battery life. Contact your nearest Ishida representative or the Ishida Service Center for
replacing battery for memory back up.
→Should the low battery voltage message not reappear, it can be assumed that the battery is recharged
after 8 hours and the battery does not need replacing.

9-8
DACS-W Operation Manual 9 PERIODIC MAINTENANCE

In"Low Voltage Battery"menu, the following message appears after pressing the EXIT key.

*[Preset Data Error]

* Press [EXIT] key.

Figure 9-13 Preset Data Error Menu

When this message appears, it is necessary to re-enter preset settings. However, when battery life has
ended, the preset settings will be lost if power is cut. For this reason, it is necessary to determine the
cause of low battery voltage.

10.1 Summary
This chapter describes how to determine the causes of equipment malfunction and to restore proper
function.
If the suggested countermeasures are ineffective, please contact an Ishida Service representative.

• Do not touch or come into contact with any charged electrical components.
• Electrical work should only be performed by a qualified electrician.

• Before performing inspection or maintenance on components not specifically

described in this manual, be sure to turn off the main power switch, lock it with
a key and retain it.
• After turning off the power switch, wait at least 3 minutes before servicing the
weigher.
• Before starting inspection or maintenance post a clearly written sign
indicating that such work is in progress to prevent other personnel from
accidental powering up the equipment.
• If the checkweigher is installed in an elevated location, take precautions, such
as using a sturdy ladder or platform, to avoid a hazardous fall.

As diagrammed above, the auger filler is controlled so that filler output achieves the Target Weight. The
sequence of control signals is as follows:
1. An Auger Ready signal is sent from the auger filler to the checkweigher.
2. An Auger Run signal is sent from the checkweigher to the auger filler to start filling.
3. A proportional Auger Pulse signal (auger rotation angle) is sent from the auger filler to the
checkweigher.
4. The checkweigher registers the number of pulses received, and when the predetermined count is
reached, it terminates the Auger Run signal to stop filling.
The DACS-W checks the weight of the filled packs and judges whether the quantity is excessive or
insufficient. Based on this, the prescribed pulse count is increased or decreased to regulate auger filler
output.

11.3 FLOATING REF. WT. REVISION

11.3.1Overview

Floating Reference Weight Revision functions as follows. When fluctuations in the average weight of
product are relatively large, the reference weight is revised to equal the average weight of each pack as
it is weighed. In this way, weight variations do not adversely affect the weighing operation. This is
especially effective in checking for missing pieces.
EXAMPLE: If the Reference Weight Revision Piece Count is 3, the Reference Weight value will be
revised in the following manner:

As the reference weight value is revised, the upper and lower limits are revised accordingly. However,
the upper limit value never exceeds the reference weight revision lower limit value. In other words, any
product pack which exceeds the reference weight revision upper limit is judged as overweight, and any
product pack which weighs less than the reference weight revision lower limit is judged as underweight.
• If the reference weight exceeds the reference weight alarm upper limit, a buzzer sounds.
• If the reference weight is less than the reference weight alarm lower limit, a buzzer sounds.

Auger begins filling.
Based on this, the prescribed pulse count is increased or decreased to regulate auger filler
output.

11.5 METAL DETECTION

11.5.1Overview

In most cases when the DACS-W is operated with a metal detector, the Metal Detection item is set to
Metal and packs which have metal detected are rejected. However, the metal detection function can also
be used to detect the absence of metal. For this, Metal Detection is set to No Metal and packs containing
no metal are rejected.
This function is useful for detecting missing packets of desiccant, spices, etc., (made of aluminum foil
or other detectable metal) which are inserted in product packs.

11.6 WEIGHING ZONES

11.6.1Overview

Proper Weight is divided into 3 areas and 5 ranks when Over Weight and Under Weight are added.
Within Proper Weight there are subcategories of Ok-Upper Limit and Ok-Lower Limit for products
which are used for determining whether or not to reject products close to weight limits and re-examining
the manufacturing process. Range values of each zone are as listed below.

0 Zone1 Under < Ref. Wt - Lower Limit

Ref. Wt. - Lower Limit Zone2 Ok-Under < Ref. Wt. - Ok-Lower Limit

Ref. Wt. - OK-Lower Limit Zone3 Proper Ref. Wt. + Ok-Upper Limit
Ref. Wt. + Ok-Upper Limit < Zone4 Ok-Over Ref. Wt. + Upper Limit
Ref. Wt. + Upper Limit < Zone5 Over Max. Display Value

11.6.2Preset Parameters

Two items concerning weiging zones were added to Preset Parameters.

11.6.2.1 Ok-Upper Limit +

This sets the amount of deviation an item may have from the Reference Weight and still be recognized
as Proper. Regulated by Ok-Upper Limit and Upper Limit, this range becomes Ok-Over. Consequently,
Ok-Upper Limit is less than Upper Limit.
Example: when Reference Weight equals 100g, Upper Limit equals 10.0g, and Ok-Upper Limit is 5.0g,
an item weighing over 105g is Ok-Proper and an item weighing over 110g is overweight.
To set OK-Upper Limit + follow the procedures listed below.

1. Call up the Preset Setting menu.

11.6.2.2 Ok-Lower Limit -

This sets the amount of deviation an item may have from the Reference Weight and still be recognized
as Proper. Regulated by Ok-Lower Limit and Lower Limit, this range becomes Ok-Lower.
Consequently, Ok-Lower Limit is greater than Lower Limit.
Example: when Reference Weight equals 100g, Lower Limit equals 10.0g, and Ok-Lower Limit is 5.0g,
an item weighing under 95g is Ok-Proper and an item weighing under 90g is overweight.
To set OK-Lower + follow the procedures listed below.
