You have a job as a trainee programmer at a software

developer who creates computer games.

You have been asked to write a computer game that will

appeal to children aged around 8-12.The game involves
navigating a character around an area collecting items and
avoiding hazards. Collecting items adds to your score,
colliding with hazards uses up lives, of which each game
character only has a limited number. For example the player
could direct a mouse around a house collecting pieces of
cheese, but the mouse needs to avoid cats (hazards) which

occupy the house. The game should be timed, with player
Context
performance based on the score achieved over a certain
time. It should also have levels of difficulty with more
difficult levels having more hazards, fewer lives or a shorter
time. The game should be exciting and fun to play, as well as
visually appealing.

you made when developing the design for the game
and show how the design will fulfil its purpose and
meet the user requirements outlined in the scenario
● Develop the game, following your design, and test it
using a number of methods including test plans and
user testing to ensure it is fully functional, stable and
has suitable performance and usability
● Optimise the game, using feedback obtained from
user testing to create an improved version
● Evaluate the design, creation and optimisation of the
game considering its effectiveness in meeting the
stated requirements. Your evaluation should be

Because this application will be mainly used for children, the visual design or UI(User Interface)
has to be suitable for the target audience. These are the designs I individually came up with

If the square hits or touches these triangles that would mean that the player has to start a
new game again. In other words it will be game over for the user.

Test plans:
Test 1: Check if the triangle stop the player from continuing the game.

Test Result: Pass

Test 2: Check if all levels are working and are not duplicating themselves over and
over again.

Evidence of Review of Design

BTEC Assignment Brief v0.2
BTEC Internal Assessment QDAM Nov 2019
I have asked some of my colleagues to help me review my design and give their views and
opinions as to what I can do to make my mobile application better and more efficient.

Omphile’s written Opinion:

I think that you should change the colour of the character you are using into maybe blue,
or dark purple just to make it more interesting and fun for kids to play the game and stay
interested in the game. You should create a system whereby the user knows how far they
are in terms of progress. And they should get a score for how long they are able to play
without crashing.

This is how the UI looks after I have reviewed the design

1. User Interface(UI): *The user-interface is perfect for our target audience which is small
children or teenagers. It is user friendly and there are hints in the app to help the user to
navigate around the app. It's very easy to get used to and understand the rules and
regulations.

2. Game play: * The modes are not too difficult since this is aimed at children or teenagers,
but they are both challenging and fun to play which makes the app more enticing to the
children which will encourage them to keep playing it.

Evaluation of the design, development,
maintenance and optimization of the app
Evaluation of Design:

User Requirements

The design that we came up with has fit all the user requirements which are that the user interface
is not too bright and flashy incase someone with epilepsy might want to play the Game.
Another requirement is that Mathlymp is not age restricted; anyone can use it, even you can use it.
You can play it from your mobile device once it's installed on it.

Geo Dash is both fun and challenging to play and you can play it with your friends or alone if you
want to. It is the ‘Go to Jump game’ for everyone.

User-Friendly Interface:

Geo dash has excelled in providing a user-friendly interface that caters to players of all ages and
skill levels. The design is intuitive, with easy navigation, clear instructions, and an appealing layout
that makes players feel comfortable from the moment they open the app.

Evaluation of development of the app
