Tapes
Introduction
Joanne’s company relies on a large-capacity server to store business data.
To prevent data loss due to hardware failure, cyberattacks, or accidental
deletion, she must choose an efficient backup method. Her two options are
magnetic discs and magnetic tapes. Each has advantages and
disadvantages, which must be considered to
determine the best solution.

Magnetic Discs
Magnetic discs, such as hard disk drives
(HDDs), are widely used for data storage due
to their high speed and accessibility.

Advantages of Magnetic Discs


1. Fast Data Access: Magnetic discs allow
quick reading and writing, making them
ideal for businesses that need frequent backups.
2. Random Access Capability: Unlike tapes, magnetic discs allow direct
access to specific files without scanning the entire storage.
3. High Storage Capacity: Modern HDDs provide terabytes of storage,
beneficial for handling large volumes of data.

Disadvantages of Magnetic Discs

3. Not Suitable for Frequent Updates: Tapes are best for periodic
backups rather than daily or real-time updates.

Best Option for Joanne
Joanne’s choice depends on how often she needs to access backups and
her budget.
