 Divide the class into groups and assign one Neoclassical artist to each group.
 Each group will analyze their assigned artist’s work using the following guide:
o What is the title of the artwork?
o What is the subject/theme?
o What are its visual characteristics?
 Groups will present their findings.

Abstraction Presentation (10 minutes)

 Define Neoclassicism as an art movement (18th-19th century).


 Discuss the characteristics of Neoclassical art:
o Order, symmetry, and simplicity
o Influence of Greek and Roman art

Use of dramatic lighting and strong colors

Discussion on Famous Neoclassical Artists (15 minutes)

 Jacques-Louis David (Oath of the Horatii, Death of Marat)


 Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres (The Apotheosis of Homer, Grande Odalisque)
 Antonio Canova (Neoclassical sculptor: Psyche Revived by Cupid’s Kiss)
 Bertel Thorvaldsen (Christ and the Twelve Apostles)

Guided Questioning:

 What themes do you observe in these paintings?


 How do these artworks reflect Neoclassical ideals?

Application C. Application (15 minutes)

Creative Activity:

 Students will create a Neoclassical-inspired artwork (e.g., a portrait or a scene depicting classical
themes).
 They will apply symmetry, strong composition, and dramatic expressions.
 Selected students will present their work and explain how it reflects Neoclassicism..
