Question 1.
Write the decimal number represented by the points S on the given number
line.

Answer:
1.5
Explanation: S is lies after 1 and fifth part toward right. So, the decimal number
represented by the points S on the given number line is 1.5.

Question 2:
Arrange the following decimal numbers in descending order.
8.51, 8.06, 9.10, 8.57
Answer.
The given decimal numbers are like decimals. By checking the digits before
decimal, we observe that 9.10 is largest of given numbers. Among the
remaining numbers, by checking the tenths place, we observe that 8.06 is the
least. Out of remaining numbers, by checking the hundredths place, we
observe that 8.57 is bigger than 8.51. So, by arranging the given numbers from
big to small, we have,
⇒ 9.10 >8.57 > 8.51 > 8.06

Question 3:
State true or false: -
(a) Rs. 70.25 can also expressed as 70Rs 25p.
(b) Adding 70.25 and 14.6 gives 84.85.
(c) 1 kg is equals to 10 grams.

(d)Expanded form of 23.05 is 20+3+ + .

Answer:
(a) True
(Rs.60.75 = Rs 60 + Rs 0.75 = Rs 60 + Rs 75100= 60Rs 75p)

(b)True
(By changing both numbers in to like decimals and adding, 70.25 + 14.60 =
84.85)

(c)False
(We know that 1Kg = 1000g)

(d) True
(The expanded form of 23.05 = 2 Tens + 3 Ones + 0 Tenths + 5 Hundredths = 20

+3+ + )

Question 4:
Show 1.1 on the number line.
Answer:
We know that 1.1 is more than one but less than two. There is one-tenth in it.
Divide the unit length between 1 and 2 into 10 equal parts and take 1 part as
shown below:

Question 5:
Subtract the sum of 114.753 and 70.14 from the sum of 93.12 and 212.15.
Answer:
Sum of 114.753 and 70.14: - 114.753
+070.140
= 184.893

Sum of 212.15 and 93.12: - 212.15

+ 93.12
= 305.27

Difference in their sums = 305.270

-184.893
=120.377

Question 6:
Express each of the following in terms of litres (L) using decimals:
(a) 625 mL
(b) 760 mL
(c) 11 L 125 mL
(d) 7 L 350 mL
Answer:
(a) We know that 1000 ml = 1 L

∴ 625ml = = 0.625 l

Thus, 625 ml = 0.625 l

(b) We know that 1000 ml = 1 L

www.learnohub.com
Class 6 Mathematics | Decimals | DPP Solutions

∴ 760 ml = =L

= 0.760 ml = 0.76 L
Thus, 760 ml = 0.76 L

(c) We know that 1000 ml = 1 L

∴ 11L 125 ml = 11 L + = 0.125 L

= (11 +0.125) L = 11.125 L

Thus, 11 L 125 ml = 11.125 L

(d) We know that 1000 mL = 1 L

∴ 7 L 350 ml = 7 L + = 0.35 L

= (7 + 0.350) L = 7.350 L = 7.35 L

Thus, 7L 350 ml = 7.35 L

Question 7:
Fill in the blanks:

(a) 25.135 = 25+ + +

(b) 66.606=60+ _ + +0+

(c) 14 + + = 14. _0_

(d) + 5 = __.0__

www.learnohub.com
Class 6 Mathematics | Decimals | DPP Solutions

Answer:
(a) 10, 100, 1000.

In the decimal number, 25.135, 1 is in tenths place. So its place value is , 3 is

in hundredths place. So, its place value is .

5 is in thousandths place. So, its place value is .

Therefore, 25.135 = 25+ + +

(b) 6, 10, 1000

In the decimal number, 66.606, the place values of each 6 from left to right

are: 60, 6, , ,

Therefore, 66.606 = 60 + 6 + + +

(c) 6, 5

The given expanded form 14 + + can be written in the correct order

as, 14 + + +

i.e., 6 is in tenths place, 0 is in hundredths place and 5 is in thousandths place.

So, the decimal number can be written as 14.605.

(d) 5, 4

The given expanded form + 5 can be written in the correct order as, 5 +

i.e., 0 is in tenths place and 4 is in hundredths place. So, the decimal number
can be written as 5.04.

Question 11:
Represent 1.3,3.8 and 4.1 on the number line.
Answer:
A represents 1.3
B represents 3.8
and C represents 4.1

Question 12:
Write 3.03, 2.75 and 2.5 in ascending order.
Answer:
The given decimals are unlike.
∴ Their corresponding like decimals are 3.03, 2.75 and 2.50.
Now neglecting the decimals, we have 303, 275 and 250.
Since, 303 > 275 > 250,
we have 3.03 > 2.75 > 2.50
∴ Ascending order is 2.50 < 2.75 < 3.03

Question 13:
Ten years old Rahul can carry a maximum weight of 15 kg. If he bought 4 kg
900 g of apples, 2 kg 600 g of grapes and 5 kg 300 g of mangoes. Can he carry
the total weight that he bought. If yes, then how much more weight he can
carry with him?
Answer:

Weight of apples = 4 kg 900 g = 4 Kg + Kg = 4.900 Kg

www.learnohub.com
Class 6 Mathematics | Decimals | DPP Solutions

Weight of grapes = 2 kg 600 g = 2 Kg + Kg = 2. 600 Kg

Weight of mangoes = 5 kg 300 g = 5 Kg + Kg = 5.300 Kg

∴ Total weight of his purchases = 4 kg 900 g + 2 kg 600 g + 5 kg 300 g

= 4.900 kg + 2.600 kg + 5.300 kg
= 12.800 kg
But Rahul can carry a maximum weight of 15 kg.
Thus more weight that he can carry with him = 15 kg – 12.800 kg
15.000
-12.800
3.200

Question 14:
Match the following:

Answer:
a.→iii
100 cm = 1 m

so, 5 cm = m

Therefore, 2 m 5 cm = 2 m + m

b.→ iv
1 km = 1000 m
14.035 km = 14.035 × 1000 m
= 14035 m
= 14000 m + 35 m
= 14 km + 35 m = 14 km 35 m.

c.→i
1 Rupee = 100 paise
Rs. 20.15 = 20.15 ×× 100 p
= 2015 paise
= 2000 paise + 15 paise
= 20 Rupees + 15 paise = 20 Rupees 15 paise.

d.→ii
100 paise = 1 Rupee

50 paise = Rs. = Rs. 0.50.
