Materials portfolio offers a two weeks lesson plan and related materials for an English language

course that has been created primarily with the four language skills of reading, writing, speaking,

and listening in mind for ESL students at the primary proficiency level. English for Academic

Purposes, or EAP, is the course's name, and it is regarded as a basic course for the students of

class 3 at "X” School. This class aims to improve students' reading, writing, listening and

speaking abilities for academic purposes by emphasizing reading strategies and sub-skills,

increasing their fluency, and increasing their communicative ability through group projects, pair

projects, class discussions, or direct interaction with the instructor and peers. They will also learn

to write something from their own imagination when they are given a topic to write on.

There are 40 students enrolled for this course in total. A group of Bangladeshi children who

have just finished grade two and are now enrolled in class three are the target students. There are

25 boys and 15 girls, all between the ages of 8 and 10. They are learning English as a second

language while speaking Bangla as their mother tongue (ESL). Although they can understand the

context and recognize a few common and important English words, they struggle to speak the

language accurately and fluently.

The resources utilized to create the courses, particularly those on reading, are real and were

obtained from newspapers, magazines, and YouTube. Some of the reading materials were

changed by shortening them to fit the allotted lesson time, while others were made easier by

using simpler vocabulary for class three students. The assignments were created specifically for

reading, writing, listening, and speaking by incorporating games or activities such the

"identifying words through hints," "open dialogue," "essay writing competition," "drawing," etc.

This made the lessons engaging and CLT-focused. The amount of student talk time is increased

to give them the biggest potential advantage.

The town of Hamelin suffered from a huge rat problem. The townspeople had

tried everything to try to get rid of the rats, but nothing seemed to work. The

Chief of the town called a meeting and promised ten sacks of gold to anyone

who could get rid of the rat problem.

One day, a stranger arrived from a faraway land. He was dressed in colorful

clothes and carried a beautiful pipe with him. He promised to get rid of the rats

and started playing a tune on his pipe. Immediately the rats in the city started

getting attracted to the sound of the pipe. He then took all the rats to a nearby

river, where the rats drowned. After getting rid of the rats, the piper returned to

the Chief to collect his reward. However, the townspeople refused to give the

piper his reward.

The piper started playing his pipe again, only this time, and the town’s children

started following him. He took them to a cave outside the town and then closed

the entrance with a big rock. Two children, one injured and the other deaf were

the only ones left behind. They informed the townspeople about what had

happened. The townspeople felt very scared and ashamed of what had

happened. They started begging the piper for his forgiveness. They also

promised him 20 sacks of gold.

Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman

Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the architect of

independent Bangladesh, was born on 17 March 1920 in the village of Tungipara in

the Gopalganj district. Father Sheikh Lutfar Rahman, mother Sayera Khatun. Sheikh

Mujibur Rahman was the third child of two brothers and four sons. After completing

his primary education at Gimadanga Primary School, he was admitted to Gopalganj

Mission High School and matriculated from this school in 1941.

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was a charismatic leader who organized an argument and

uprising against the British in India, guided the Bengalis of East Pakistan in their

resistance to the unjust actions of the postcolonial Pakistani government, and finally

helped create the independent nation of Bangladesh in 1971. He headed the Awami

League and was the first President of Bangladesh during the Bangladesh Liberation

War, and later became Prime Minister in independent Bangladesh. He is popularly

referred to as Sheikh Mujib, with the honorarytitle of Bangabandhu ( Bongobondhu,

“Friend of Bengal”). His eldest daughter, Sheikh Hasina, is the present leader of the

Awami League and the current (17 march 2015) Prime Minister of Bangladesh.

Bangabandhu Sheik Mujibur Rahman was the planner of our nation and the country

by all complexity of the period. Indeed, what we now call Bangladesh was never

independent in the most genuine feeling of the term before 1971. It was Mujib and

just Mujib who gave the country a genuine touch of opportunity. It was truly

a trek into the long method for the opportunity from full-scale mistreatment through

self-sufficiency and home run in which he gave the dynamic lead. He was

the courageous warrior of the Language Movement of 1952, the pioneer of

the democratic movement of 1962, the designer of the Six-point Development of

1966, the life-power of the Mass Movement of 1969, the fortunate victor of the

election of 1970 and, most importantly, the greatest legend of the Liberation War of

1971. He is undisputedly the organizer of independent Bangladesh and,

subsequently, the Father of the Country. After nine long months of bloody war, the

sun of Bangladesh's independence rose. After the victory of Bangladesh,

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was released from jail on 10 January 1972.

On his return to the country, he took over as Prime Minister on 12 January, and

devoted him to the work of building a war-torn country. But the defeated Hyenas

could not accept his success. So the conspiracy started again. When the country was

moving forward overcoming all obstacles, it became a victim of domestic

conspirators and international circles. On 15 August 1975, Bangabandhu and his

family were killed by a soldier. Therefore, the Bengali nation observes the National

Day of Mourning on 15th August every year.

The Day at the Zoo

https://www.write4fun.net/view-entry/130813
One gorgeous sunny day I asked my mum if we could go to the zoo. She said I could
invite one friend and one friend only and I asked her if I could invite Josie. She said yes
and she told me to go and ring Josie up. Josie said yes and I said we'll pick her up at
about 9.30.

At 9.30 Mum and I picked Josie up. After a half hour drive we were at the front gate of
the zoo. The gate was made from bronze metal and was an old theme.

First of all we visited the monkeys. They were staring at me like they were going to
attack me because I was eating a banana, so we went and had a look and the elephants.
One of the elephants stuck it's trunk through the bars and stole my banana.

Next we went and got myself another banana and visited the tigers. A baby was asleep
next to its mother. It was so adorable but sadly we woke it up from the flash of the
camera. We ran as the tiger growled at us through the glass.
The giraffes were fantastic; they didn't do anything like, steal my banana, growl at us
and look like they were going to attack us. They just ate some leaves from the trees.

At the end of the day my favorite was the giraffes. For my birthday I want a giraffe
named George.
C. Class discussion:

Task-1

Answer the following questions:

1. Who went to the Zoo?

2. How long did it take to reach at the zoo?

3. Which animals did they see at the zoo?

4. Who stole the banana?

5. What is the name of the giraffe?

Task-2

Come in front of the class and talk about your experience in the zoo. What you saw

and how you felt.

D. Home-work

Draw two pictures of two animals you saw in the zoo, and write 10 sentences about

them.
Report

I have selected some Authentic English articles and YouTube videos for class 3 as my

resources. I have selected 8 lessons because I have to design for two weeks. Writing,

reading, listening, and speaking are the four skills I'm attempting to concentrate on.

I have selected the lesson "greetings and self-introduction" for the first class of the first

week. I will show them a supplement video before starting the class so they can get a

sense of the subject and it will also help them improve their listening skills. The video

will teach them how to introduce self to a group of people. . Then I have taken a

dialogue from an authentic article in which two kids are introducing themselves to each

other. This reading material will focus on their reading skill and will help them to learn

how to make an introductory dialogue when meeting someone. As the class assessment I

have assigned them two tasks. One is to perform a dialogue act in pairs to introduce

themselves, and another one is to talk about themselves in front of the class. These will

improve their speaking skill and make them confident in public speaking. And as the

homework I asked them to write a paragraph on themselves which will improve their

writing skill.

For my following two classes (Week-1: Class-2 &3), I have created materials that are

identical to the first.

The real material for my fourth class (Week-1: Class-4), which served as the basis for

the reading material, was a YouTube video. For the writing assignment, I created a set of

blanks to be filled in, and for the speaking assignment, I asked the students to recite the

poetry from the video. As a result, I gave them the assurance that they could learn note-
taking from a video and that they could also recite an English poetry in front of a crowd.

Last but not least, kids will be required to compose a brief paragraph on their pets as part

of their writing assessment.

For my upcoming two classes (Week-2: Class 5& Class 6), I've created fifth and sixth

materials that are identical to the first one, with a focus on reading, writing, listening,

and speaking abilities. The only difference is that I gave them a homework assignment

that involved creating groups to record a role-play act which follows CLT method of

learning. Additionally, as the homework of the sixth class I gave them describe a

drawing or a poem or act on a related lesson topic.

Lastly, my last two classes of second week (Week-2: Class 7 & Class 8), My lesson’s

topics are “Life of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman” and “A trip to the zoo”

I created my materials focusing on reading, writing, listening, and speaking abilities. In

the seventh material I added unscramble sentences as class task and as home task I gave

two creative tasks. For example: as a speaking task, I assigned them a prompt speaking

and as a writing task I assigned them an analytical paragraph. Additionally, I used the

same technique to prepare my material for the eighth class as the seventh one. For

writing task I gave then few questions to answer, and for speaking I asked them to share

their experiences on visit to the zoo.

Although learning a second language is challenging, it may be made simpler for pupils if

they are properly directed and the teacher has a lesson plan that focuses on all of their

skills, including reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Additionally, I believe that my

lesson plan will enable my students to acquire English, which will benefit them in the

long run.
