1 FOOD AND AGRICULTURE
The Philippines is still primarily an
agricultural country despite the efforts to turn
it into an industrialized economy. Most
citizens still live in rural areas and support
themselves through agriculture. The country’s
main agricultural products are rice, corn,
coconut, sugarcane, banana, pineapple, coffee
and many others. The Philippines exports its
agricultural products around the world. Major
products are coconut products, fruits and
vegetable, banana, and prawns (type of
shrimp). But there are pressing concerns from
the agriculture sector. (Please refer to the
table.)

keep their crops well-hydrated and

5. Reduced farm labor Due to the fast industrialization of our
country, many people prefer to do
industrialized work instead of planting
crops for the nation to eat. Our farmers
have started to grow old, and only few
are replacing our old farmers.

3.2 INDUSTRIALIZATION
Industrialization is the process by which an
economy is transformed from agricultural to one
based on manufacturing of goods. Individual
manual labor is often replaced by mechanized
mass production, and craftsmen are replaced by
assembly lines. Throughout the century,
Philippines participated in industrialization,
from importing and exporting goods and
offering service across the world. The
Philippines is considered as a third world
country, where the advancement of technology
and science is slow. There are many issues with
regards to the industrialization in the country.
Below are the issues faced by Philippines.
