Lesson Plan: Week 1 – Getting to Know You

Student: 11-year-old male, B1 level


Duration: 40 minutes
Platform: Zoom

Objective:

By the end of the lesson, the student will confidently introduce himself and share basic
personal details (name, age, hobbies, family). The lesson will build rapport and set a friendly
tone for future sessions.

Materials Needed:

1. Zoom whiteboard and annotation tools.


2. Visual prompts (photos of hobbies, family, and activities).
3. "Two Truths and a Lie" prompt examples.
4. Role-play scripts (simple conversation starters).

Lesson Breakdown

1. Warm-Up (5 minutes)

 Greeting and Check-In:


o "Hi! How are you today? Did you have breakfast?"
 Zoom Tool Introduction:
o Briefly show how to use Zoom features like mute/unmute and the whiteboard
for participation.
 Activity: Quick Icebreaker Question
o “If you could have any superpower, what would it be?”

2. Vocabulary Introduction (10 minutes)

 Introduce Key Vocabulary:


o Words/Phrases:
 Name: "My name is..."
 Age: "I am ___ years old."
 Hobbies: "I like __."
 Family: "I have ___ in my family."
o Visual Aids: Show pictures of hobbies (e.g., football, painting, video games)
and family members (e.g., mom, dad, sister).
 Activity: Matching Game
o Show a slide with images and ask:
 "What is this hobby?"
 "Who is this family member?"
o Use annotation tools for the student to circle their answers.

3. Ice-Breaker Game: Two Truths and a Lie (10 minutes)

 Instructions:
o Explain the rules: “I will say three things about myself. Two are true, and one
is not true. You guess which one is the lie!”
 Examples (Teacher):

1. "I have a cat."


2. "I love spicy food."
3. "I can play the guitar."
 Student’s Turn:

o Guide the student to create their own three sentences.


o Help with sentence structure if needed.
o React positively to guesses to encourage participation.

4. Practice: Role-Play Meeting a New Friend (10 minutes)

 Set the Scene:


o “Imagine you are meeting a new friend at school. What will you say?”
 Conversation Script:
o "Hi, my name is _____. What's your name?"
o "How old are you?"
o "What do you like to do for fun?"
o "Tell me about your family."
 Activity:
o First round: Teacher plays the new friend.
o Second round: Student plays the new friend, using prompts to answer.

5. Wrap-Up and Review (5 minutes)

 Feedback:
o Compliment the student’s efforts: "You did a great job introducing yourself!"
o Correct minor mistakes gently: “Remember, we say, ‘I am eleven years old,’
not ‘I have eleven years.’”
 Quick Recap:
o “Today, we learned how to introduce ourselves. Can you tell me your name
and hobby one more time?”
 Homework:
o Write 3 sentences about yourself (name, age, hobby) to share next week.
o Practice saying: “Hi! My name is ___. I am ___ years old. I like ___.”
