The given graph sheds light on how many people left Ireland and their unemployment

rate in a 20-year period commencing from 1988.

Overall, both the number of leavers and the index of unemployment saw decrease,
with that for the second seeing a bigger change. Additionally, unemployment
percentage showed consistently higher figures in each year till the beginning of the
21st century.

The number of people who left Ireland started at less than 600,000 in 1988, and this
was followed by a considerable decline to more than 350,000 in 1994. This trend
extended to just under 550,000 in the final year, with a low at 350,000 in 2002.

Beginning at 17% in the initial year, the proportion of unemployed people slightly
decreased to 15% in 1992, with a figure that then diminished tremendously till 2000,
reaching its lowest point 5%, despite remaining stable in the next two years. By 2008,
the unemployment rate increased marginally by 1% .
